Burning Man isn’t a community of perfect people.

It’s a community of regular, messy humans. People with issues, complexes, sometimes psychological wounds. People who want to be better and are actually trying.

They’re not the best. They’re ordinary. But that attempt, every person reaching for a better version of themselves, is exactly what builds this space.

Everyone here is trying to create something real.

I’ve noticed there are levels to how deep people go into this thing. The deepest level is the best one. It’s where you feel this festival the most.

That’s the level of building. Building a space, building another reality, building something that makes other people lose their minds with joy. The builders, the creators of this temporary city, they get the full experience. All of it.

Then there’s the shallow level. And honestly, I feel for the people stuck there.

These are the ones who show up like it’s just a festival. They see music, they see drive, they think some organization built all this for them.

But that’s not how it works. The organization builds infrastructure. Roads. Toilets. Ticket sales. Order and safety. That’s it. They don’t build Burning Man.

They build the space where Burning Man becomes possible.

I wish everyone could feel this: your dance floor packed, sold out, everyone jumping, looking at you, knowing you built this, and loving you for it.

I wish everyone could watch strangers climb on their art piece the way I’m watching right now. Playing on it like kids.

I wish everyone could watch people ride and lose themselves in joy on the art car they spent months building.

Because that’s where happiness actually lives. In realizing what you’re capable of.

And this is the one place where that’s actually possible. by @rabbittoly

Everyone says Burning Man changed them. Nobody talks about how it broke them

Remember that moment? You come back from the Playa all enlightened, and you realize – they didn’t get it. Nobody got it. And now you see the matrix.

First couple months after my first Burn I looked at people in regular life like they’re missing something. They’re talking about bills and work, and I’ve discovered the “truth” in the desert.

Sitting there with a smart look: “You don’t understand what’s important in life.” But you can’t figure out why after such transformation, your life hasn’t changed.

After each Burn, I have about two weeks of this weird state. Just like that. Remember a sunset on the Playa lump in my throat. See a photo from Burn and hits hard.

And you know what’s funny? I thought it was normal. Everyone talks about “integration.” Nobody says it might just be depression with a spiritual flavor.

You know what’s the saddest? When you realize you’re not living anymore. You’re preparing for the next Burn. And in between… emptiness. Waiting. Waiting to be there again, where it’s “real.”

The problem isn’t Burning Man. The problem is we use peak experience as escapism from real problems instead of solving them.

The magic of Burn isn’t about escaping life for a week. It’s about bringing that magic into every ordinary day.

I’ll go again next year anyway. But not as an escape from life. Probably 😅

P.S. If this post triggered you - maybe it’s time for therapy, not another Burn 😘 by @rabbittoly

I’ve noticed some disdainful attitudes toward Sparkle Ponies on the Playa - those who come to Burn to show off their amazing costumes.

They don’t build art cars or work at camps. They often complain about conditions and might even try to buy things on the Playa.

The builders - those creating camps, art installations, and art cars - often view these festival-goers skeptically. “They’re not real burners.”

But let’s flip the perspective.

We build art cars and camp lounges to bring beauty and diversity to the Burn. Sparkle Ponies decorate themselves.

Without them, our art cars wouldn’t look nearly as magical. The Burn would feel more like a German techno festival - just people with tools hanging around their setups.

I believe Sparkle Ponies contribute just as much as anyone else in our community.

Yes, they might bring complexes about exclusivity. These are the people spending hours in line for Mayan Warrior.

For them, being seen often matters more than experiencing those precious, fleeting Burning Man moments.

But they bring beauty. They spend thousands to look fresh and stunning.

Sparkle Ponies are cool, sexy, and vibrant. Arriving Wednesday through Saturday, they add freshness to our city.

And it’s amazing that someone takes on this role.

Let’s remember: Burning Man isn’t a community of perfect people. It’s ordinary people attempting to build a perfect city.
