We had to say goodbye to Teddy yesterday. His liver had enlarged rapidly over the course of a coupe days and he was ready to go. We adopted Teddy as a senior with lots of health issues- we knew our time was limited, but nothing prepares you for having to make that decision. Teddy was a trooper who got me through some of the hardest times of my life- COVID lockdown and all of my diabetes related eye issues. His issues started the same as mine and we both went to ophthalmologist appointments together and had eye surgeries the same year. He hung on til I was all better- and when I was at my saddest he was there to cheer me up with kisses and cuddles. Teddy taught me so much about unconditional love- he put my sunny disposition to shame and didn’t ask for anything in return. I know he’s a dog, but he was much much more in my life and I know we found each other exactly when we needed each other. All the time in the world wouldn’t have been enough to repay him for everything. Everyone who knew me, knew Teddy. He was my baby, but he meant a lot to a lot of people- he charmed everyone he met and made friends everywhere. He made me and Enia a real family and was with us through so many milestones from our days in our little studio, to our slightly bigger apartment, and to the house. Teddy, you were the best friend I could’ve ever hoped for. I hope heaven has endless french fries for you and you can see everything. Say hi to Lolo & Chase for mommies, we will see you on the other side, buddy. 🥹❤️🌈

Have you ever forgotten your child’s bday? .. me neither! Last week, we turned THREE! 🥹💚

We launched as a business 3 years ago, but I’ve been posting on this account for over a decade 😵‍💫 i think this was our best year yet.. here’s some of the highlights!

We launched Santa Assist and collected gifts from our community to distribute to 26 families within our community 💚

We launched our mascot, did the most popups we’ve ever done, and corporate rainbow washed to THE CHRONICALLY GAYEST for the first time ever! 🌈

We met so many diabetics in the wild!

Launched a ton of new collections!

And launched our discord communities.

We did our first convention and then did another! We hope to attend a diabetes conference sometime soon.. tag em below if you think we should go!

We expended our mission to include ALL types of diabetics and chronically ill people 💚

Wether you’re new here, a day 1, or somewhere inbetween… THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart. None of this would be possible without you!

We’re celebrating at our THIRD chronically illest picnic in Anaheim on Sept 5! Hope to see you there! 💚 by @rachaelceline

I found this 2006 golden sneaker award at my mom’s house today. When @breakthrought1d was JDRF they awarded these sneakers to fundraisers who raised enough money and invited them to a gala to receive the award.

I have memories of the gala. A kid at my table ate 4 breadsticks and me and my dad both said “HOW DID HE DO THAT?”. I wondered if I’d ever eat breadsticks again 💀

When I found THE award today I was shocked it said “2006”. That was the year I was diagnosed. I thought it was a few years later. That means the year I was diagnosed, my community rallied around me and fundraised enough money to win me a golden sneaker and send me to a fancy gala. 🥹

My mom found the walk, coordinated a school-wide fundraiser at my middle school, and our whole family, and friends who were basically family, showed up for me. Every single year. At some point in my adulthood, I stopped going and JDRF became @breakthrought1d , but those memories have always been special to me.

The walk was the only place, pre-social media, I saw other diabetics and didn’t feel so different.

This year is my 20th year living with diabetes and honestly its been full of special and emotional moments. Finding this was definitely one of them.

Its a reminder of why community is important and why showing up, especially for diabetic kids, is so important to me.

I cant wait to return to the @bt1dgreaterorangeca walk with a team co-led by @analie.dailydose_t1d this year in Anaheim. If you’d like to walk with us, send me a DM 💙 by @rachaelceline

the rumors are true, it’s my 20th diaversary! I was diagnosed in 2006 when I was 12 years old. My life completely changed and I spent a lot of time hoping diabetes would just go away. 12 year-old me would not believe the life we’re living now. Being myself and being loved for it has healed deep wounds. So much of what I do with my life and @thechronicallyillest now is spreading the message that diabetes wont stop you from living an amazing, beautiful life. Diabetes still sucks, and maybe one day it will go away! But, we’ve turned lemons into sugar-free lemonade and if its me + diabetes forever, we’re going to be just fine. 💚

Also thank you @nook2231 for the diet coke cake and also saving my life everyday by existing 🥹 by @rachaelceline

My 20th diaversary is coming up at the end of this month. Honestly, life before diabetes gets harder and harder to remember. When I think about my childhood, my first thought is my diagnosis story and how difficult it was to navigate that as a child that just wanted to be a child. I’ve been reflecting on how there was a time before the diagnosis where I did get to just be a normal child. I’m thankful my parents were able to take so many pictures to remind me that I had a life before diagnosis. And I think little me would be extremely proud of the life we’ve made after diagnosis. 💙

When I first started posting about being gay & diabetic, I had no idea how it would go over. It was content I hadn’t seen before. And although I get my fair share of hate comments, unfollows, and questions about why I would need to post about it- it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. If it bothers you, it wasn’t for you. Through sharing my story, I didn’t expect to find more gayabetics, let alone enough to create a discord full of 200+ gay diabetics. Being a part of the gayabetic community is extremely special to me and I won’t shut up about how underrepresented we are til I see a trans-masc in a dexcom ad. (This is a joke but not really). Reality is, some of us wont trust the diabetes community because the diabetes community hasn’t been kind to us. I hope to see that change, but in the mean time- we make our own space. Take it up, baby! and if you want to join our gayabetic discord, comment DISCORD ❤️🧡💚💙💜
