Rachael, but it sounds like “Rahel.” My middle name means hope. It’s Hebrew.

Life moves in seasons. Some have a lot of mountains to climb.

You reach a peak. For a moment it feels like you've made it. You look out over the vista and tell yourself you've reached a finish line of sorts.

And you have.

The forest is a stunning mix of jagged rocks and mosquitoes and sun through the trees and wonder.

And you'll have to go back down again. And like it or not, there will be another mountain.

We grow up with people. We watch them become who they’re going to be.

I’m proud to watch so many of my friends killing it professionally. But watching Paulita? The strength she’s built and displayed so consistently over the years? It’s one of the most incredible things I’ve seen.
Every job she’s ever had didn’t exist before she stepped into it. Google studied her teams to figure out why they outperformed. The answer was her.

And her advice to everyone starting out: boxers don’t punch themselves in the face. If someone asks if you can do something, the answer is yes. Figure it out later.

January 14, 2019.

I was standing at the shuttle stop at Harvard’s Longwood campus. I saw this sign and thought, I should take a picture. I didn’t know why.

Little did I know how much change would happen in the coming months and years. (Coincidentally, someone named Amy showed up too.)

Change is crazy and chaotic. All we can do is stay fluid.

If you feel like everything is too much right now - too much change, too much pivoting, too much pressure - this episode is for you.

Were you raised to believe that if you followed a certain path, you’d be safe? That your professional track could somehow protect you?

On this episode of @thebreadwinnerspodcast, I talk to @suedominus about the extraordinary career she’s built without following someone else’s blueprint.
Susan is a staff writer at the New York Times Magazine, a lecturer at Yale, and the author of The Family Dynamic: A Journey into the Mystery of Sibling Success.

The episode sparked so many insights for me about life and work. Susan’s recent book focuses on how siblings shape our achievements and choices. I couldn’t help but reflect on the distinct ways these two dudes have influenced my unconventional career choices. Love you both, @re_lowell and @hcrsa1!

The first episode of “The Breadwinners” reboot is live! This conversation with Carla Zanoni, and this whole season, is exactly what I’ve been trying to say for a long time.

Over the past few years, countless people have told me about disruptions they never saw coming - layoffs, divorces, health crises, losses that knocked them completely off their axis. And what strikes me every time isn’t just the pain. It’s what happened after. How something shifted when they stopped fighting reality and started feeling their way forward.

That’s what this season is about. Not succeeding in spite of the hard things, but because of them. Learning to trust the pause instead of powering through it. Finding footing in the grayness when there’s no clear path.

Carla lives this. She’s rebuilt her life more than once and talks about the “alchemy of surrender” - those moments when the playbook stops working and you have to get quiet enough to see what’s actually true. If you’ve ever felt like you were supposed to chart a course from A to B but life had other plans, this one’s for you.

“Steady in the Chaos with Carla Zanoni” - The Breadwinners Season 7, Episode 1.
Thank you for listening. Still we rise!

I’m thrilled to announce that The Breadwinners Podcast Season 7 is live! This season is launching in partnership with my friend and now co-producer, the ✨ force-of-nature @rachelsklar and her Smart Friends Network (@hismartfriend). We have already recorded a slate of episodes with amazing guests including @carlazanoni @aanburajan @suedominus @abbyfalik @farrahbostic @paulitadavidofficial @dorieclark @neshasagenda @cmwalla and planning for others including @bridgetmarieindc @helaineolen & more everyday visionaries.

I co-launched @thebreadwinnerspodcast with @jenniferowens in 2019 to examine how our approach to work and life was evolving in turbulent times, and to drive the point home went into straight into the pandemic and what has seemed to be the never-ending remaking of our work lives since then. Through @reworking.leadership, I’ve been deep in the real work of helping leaders find steadiness and direction while everything around them keeps shifting. I could not resist rebooting the podcast for a new season of examining what “bread winning” means to us now and how we are adapting in a working world that looks *nothing* like what we were sold when we were just starting out. (And has happened over and over again!)

Big huge thanks to amazing podcast producer @RonPassaro, and @juliagannon for the design help with our logo refresh (both from @myherocreative) and Phyllis & Kelvin from @soundadvicestrategies for their continuous support including getting our previous six seasons our YouTube and for the foundation this podcast is built on. And I am SO excited to have original music from the incredible @hannahbakke this season - her song “Perfect” from @thegardenfolkmusical (and she will be joining us on a future episode as well!)

Season 7 is a joint production between @reworking.leadership and The Smart Friends Network, generously supported by @ruthannharnisch.

Please listen, subscribe & rate if you are so inclined! So excited to share this great new season of The Breadwinners!

This year isn’t about recovery. It’s about reorientation.

For everyone in my orbit, 2025 wasn’t about one hard thing.
It was about too many things at once.

Work pressure plus personal strain.
Change without clarity.
Responsibility without enough support.

Most of the people I talk to aren’t burned out.
They’re disoriented.

They’re trying to make decisions
without a map
and without the capacity the old advice assumes they still have.

That’s the work I’m in right now. The podcast I’m relaunching. And the book I’m writing.

If this sounds familiar, I’m curious:
what’s the part that’s hardest right now?
Decision-making? Direction? Energy?

(You don’t have to solve it here. Just name it.). #reorientation #capacity #pressure #changework #findingdirection workandlife by @rachaeltikva

5 years ago I chose freedom. The journey since has been a time.
Often productive and joyful. Often a grueling uphill climb. Often both to some degree.

This weekend was an inflection point for my family. And I took a rare deep breath.

I went to Paris.
Stayed and caught up with a dear friend and her family. Went to a Turkish spa. Climbed the Eiffel Tower to the top. Took a writing class with a Sorbonne professor (and wrote a poem I liked!) Walked. Listened to music. Ate at cafés.

I didn’t come back to a simpler life. But I came back remembering that happiness isn’t a place. The one person who has always been here is the one I appreciate most. So grateful for these years I’ve gotten to know her and put her first.

“So off and on you go, the seconds tick the time out
There’s so much left to know and I’m on the road to find out…”
-Cat Stevens

Ever grateful for my sparkly people who are my family. @meghnak23 is pure magic. 💜🙏 🥰
