Rhonesha Byng has a mantra: No one ever slows her agenda. It’s motivated her for the last 18 years of building her award-winning digital media company, and provided its name - Her Agenda - with the goal of providing resources and inspiration for professional women as they ascend in their careers. Core to this mission is autonomy - as a critical element underlying the success of her audience, and for Rhonesha herself. In her two decades building Her Agenda, Rhonesha has retained 100% ownership and control, which has served her as she’s navigated the shifting, roiling media landscape with the agility required to adapt. In this episode of The Breadwinners, host Rachael Lowell talks to Rhonesha about why it’s crucial for women to prioritize their own power, why community is her secret weapon, and what it takes to build something that lasts. Find Rhonesha at @neshasagenda and @HerAgenda and @BOMESIorg.

Abby Falik is constantly thinking about what it actually means to prepare for a life - not just a career. She founded Global Citizen Year, which encourages graduating high school students to take a gap year, and now The Flight School, which takes that thinking one step further, providing fellowships to graduating students for a “launch year” - and for an education that she says is “higher than higher ed.”

Abby’s thinking about travel, entrepreneurship, self-discovery and lifelong learning is fascinating, and I loved this conversation. We talked about where self-permission comes from, why the most formative learning often happens outside the classroom, and why real change is *always* an inside job. Find Abby at @abbyfalik and The Flight School at @launchyear.

Ashwini Anburajan (@aanburajan) is the CEO of Obi (@obiriders), the Kayak for rideshare, to which she was appointed in August 2025 after serving as Chief Revenue Officer. Ashwini’s career path has been a winding one, starting with watching her immigrant parents as they struggled to build a good life in a new country, which shaped her understanding of risk, ambition, access, and power structures. She has been a journalist and a founder, worked in VC and crypto, with startups and unicorns, been bossed, unbossed, and now, the boss (except if you count Board members). In this episode of The Breadwinners, host Rachael Lowell talks with Ashwini about taking career and workplace advice with a grain of salt, how stepping into the CEO seat can completely change your mindset, and why putting your vision on paper is the best way to ship it to reality. It’s a good one!

@dorieclark has been thinking about reinvention for decades, since it was foisted upon her when she was fired from her newspaper job the day before 9/11. She has continued to think about reinvention as she has done it, learning how to be an entrepreneur & consultant, and then becoming high-level keynote speaker, four-time Thinkers50 Top 50 global business thinker, and bestselling author of “The Long Game,” “Entrepreneurial You,” “Stand Out,” and, yes, “Reinventing You.” In this episode of The Breadwinners, host Rachael Lowell talks to Dorie about how to embrace reinvention even when it’s very unplanned and extremely unwanted, why racking up credentials feels safe but is anything but, and why being a great friend is pretty solid market differentiation. If you also use “salubrious” casually in conversation and might find yourself nodding along to the wisdom of the Wham Rap! - this is for you.

Thrilled to have the brilliant & multi-faceted Christina Wallace as a guest on this ep of The Breadwinners! She’s so multi-faceted that her facets have facets. (Also she is a math genius so she will point out that a facet can’t have another facet, and we love that about her.) She teaches Entrepreneurship at Harvard Business School, she is a classically trained musician, she is a math prodigy, a Broadway producer (of numerous Tony-winning and nominated plays and musicals) and the author of “The Portfolio Life: How to Future-Proof Your Career, Avoid Burnout, and Build a Life Bigger than Your Business Card,” which by now you can tell she lives by. I loved talking to Christina about her lifelong love of math, how Broadway is like a startup, why storytelling is innately human, and when exactly that straight track can turn into spaghetti. It’s a terrific conversation and well worth your time.

If you’re wondering whether your role is becoming obsolete, maybe it’s time to build the next one.
Every job Paulita David has ever had didn’t exist before she stepped into it. She’s the US Large Customer Sales Lead at Reddit, spent a decade at Google, and became the highest-ranking Latina at the company. Google studied her teams to figure out why they outperformed. The answer? An unconscious bias toward diversity.
We talk about why diverse teams win, why the best careers are the ones you invent yourself, and the advice she gives everyone starting out: boxers don’t punch themselves in the face.

To the women winning bread.
To the ones holding it together while everything shifts. To the ones who kept going when the playbook stopped working.
To the ones who built something that didn’t exist before they stepped into it.
To the ones who said yes when they weren’t sure.
To the ones who set boundaries and meant it.
To the ones who are still figuring it out.

The systems change. The stories change. And still we rise.

Happy International Women’s Day.

If you feel like everything is too much right now - too much change, too much pivoting, too much pressure - then @FarrahBostic gets you. She’s the founder of The Difference Engine (@makebigdecisions), a consultancy that helps companies get radically clear on their goals, where to meet their audience, and the best decisions to take them there. She asks uncomfortable questions and cuts through noise and bloat straight to get to the right answers. She’s also the creator and host of @CrossTabsPodcast,a podcast about people, data and power. In this episode of The Breadwinners, host Rachael Lowell talks to Farrah about ethics as a North star, adaptability as a practice, and how to brace for polycrisis (pandemic, climate change, AI tech bros). If you’re a little over rolling with all these punches - this is for you.

The first episode of “The Breadwinners” reboot is live! This conversation with Carla Zanoni, and this whole season, is exactly what I’ve been trying to say for a long time.

Over the past few years, countless people have told me about disruptions they never saw coming - layoffs, divorces, health crises, losses that knocked them completely off their axis. And what strikes me every time isn’t just the pain. It’s what happened after. How something shifted when they stopped fighting reality and started feeling their way forward.

That’s what this season is about. Not succeeding in spite of the hard things, but because of them. Learning to trust the pause instead of powering through it. Finding footing in the grayness when there’s no clear path.

Carla lives this. She’s rebuilt her life more than once and talks about the “alchemy of surrender” - those moments when the playbook stops working and you have to get quiet enough to see what’s actually true. If you’ve ever felt like you were supposed to chart a course from A to B but life had other plans, this one’s for you.

Reworking Leadership is focused on what leadership actually requires right now.

Not forcing resilience.
Not louder confidence.
Not pretending the pressure isn’t real.

We work with leaders who are capable, thoughtful, and stuck. Not because they lack skill, but because the systems around them have changed faster than the internal models they were taught to use.

This piece is a starting point from our blog reworkingleadership.substack.com

A way of naming where many leaders actually are before we talk about where to go next.

If you’ve felt frozen, overwhelmed, or oddly disengaged inside work you care about, this is for you.
