OUT TOMORROW!!!!!

I can’t WAIT for everyone to meet Charlotte and Wolfgang, and for the many people who’ve read the book and loved it already - thank you a million times for your support, and for the gift of your reading hours. ❤️❤️❤️🍒

Lady Charlotte Louisa Aveton knows all of London’s rules, and better yet, knows how to break them. But when she takes it too far and stumbles into a serious scandal, she knows only one thing will save her—marriage, as soon as possible.

With only one summer to pick a husband, Charlotte invites all of England’s most eligible bachelors to an extravagant summer house party. There’s a brooding artist, a wickedly handsome Russian prince, and one of the wealthiest men in all of Europe...so why do her eyes keep sliding over to the Duke of Warrick, the man who once came dangerously close to breaking her heart?

Tropes: Second chance romance, Brother’s best friend, He falls first and harder, Only one carriage, Forced Proximity, Yearning, Regency era, Doors wide open

It’s a frigid day in January but in my head it’s summer in the English countryside.

JUST FOR THE SEASON starts with:

- A scandal at a masked ball, which leads to
- An edict from the Queen that Charlotte must find a husband OR ELSE
- Which, because Charlotte is Charlotte, means she throws an epic summer house party and stacks it with so many suitors,
- Including an artist, a rake, a Russian prince, and a man in finance, and also
- A war hero duke, the only man who ever broke Charlotte’s heart.
- But maybe with the help of a meddling grandmother, a pack of hilarious friends, and a badly behaved English sheepdog named Rupert, it will end in
- Making out in a cherry orchard?

I’m beyond honored and thrilled to announce that The Trouble with Anna is officially an NYPL Best Book for 2025. Did I make embarrassing noises when I heard? Oh yes. Am I still? I plead the 5th. It’s beyond a dream to have Anna recognized by the extraordinary librarians of the New York Public Library, and the fact that they had a reception this morning and I got to go to say hi to some of the committee members and admire the lions - I am BEAMING.

So grateful to the NYPL librarians, of course for recognizing Anna but also for being the literary heartbeat of the city.

(And a special shout out to @communitylibrarysedona because when I was a kid, the librarians let me check unlimited books each week.)

This is a quote that people keep telling me is one is their favorites and - poor Wolfgang. He never stood a chance against Charlotte and her love of mischief and breaking the rules.

Character art by the fabulously talented @egorod by @rachel.griffiths.writes

I’ve been designing Regency costumes for a stage play, so it was the perfect time to celebrate this one (with help from the fabulous cast!) . . .
.
A jaunty Regency romance in which an outspoken heiress commanded by the queen to find a husband by the end of the season invites a series of eligible suitors to her country estate, only to be saddled by the supervisory eye of her brother’s friend, the taciturn duke who ghosted her years earlier and who’s been struggling with his feelings ever since. The set-up provides plenty of opportunities for the two to spar and spark as he simmers with jealousy and desire, and as she baits him with witty teasing and a delightful talent for embroidering hidden insults into handkerchiefs for him. The history between the two lays a rich groundwork for big feelings early on, even as the pair avoids confronting what drove them apart years ago. With the help of a deliciously meddling grandmother and an attraction too strong to resist, eventually, the two can’t help but collide. I loved that the heroine co-owned and managed a textile mill, and my fashion-history-loving heart delighted in the descriptions of the jacquard loom, the embroidery, and the feather motif in the damask. We also get lots of other fun details about clothes, an exploration of the power of artistic expression, and several fabulous barbs about gender dynamics that still hit close to the mark in today’s society. It’s a fun, flirty, smart, sexy read, with an independent, modern-minded heroine, a noble hero wracked from the start by love and lust, a fabulous cast of supporting characters, and an empowering celebration of not just pushing back against the rules, but of overturning them completely, especially when love is on the line.
.
Have you read this one? What did you think?

Book Review: Just For The Season By Rachel Griffiths

Thank you so much @rachel.griffiths.writes for sending me a signed copy. I appreciate your kindness ❤️

Synopsis 📚
After a scandal leaves Lady Charlotte desperate to marry, she invites England’s most eligible bachelors to a summer retreat to find a husband, only to find herself drawn back to the duke who once nearly broke her heart.

My Thoughts 💭

Did I just enter my Regency era?! 😂

This was my first Regency romance and I had so much fun with it. Lady Charlotte is a riot. She’s bold, clever and constantly pushing the boundaries of what is considered acceptable for a woman during her time. She’s also genuinely funny and had me laughing throughout the book.

The Bachelor style courting premise was super entertaining. Watching Charlotte date a house full of eligible men while the Duke of Warrick stood on the sidelines not so subtly losing his cool was easily one of my favorite parts. The history between them added tension, and their chemistry and banter were just too good.

I liked that Charlotte had more going on than simply finding a husband. She knew what she wanted for herself and wasn’t afraid to challenge the expectations placed on her, even when it caused problems along the way.

Just for the Season is a feel good read with memorable characters full of personality. It has plenty of charm and a healthy dose of chaos to keep things interesting. Definitely recommend.

QOTD: Drop a feel-good read rec! 📚💕

✨BLURB✨
For fans of Lisa Kleypas and Sarah MacLean, Rachel Griffiths’s latest historical romance is a sexy, laugh-out-loud romp that’s The Bachelorette set in Regency England with shades of Bridgerton.

Lady Charlotte Louisa Aveton knows all of London’s rules, and better yet, knows how to break them. But when she takes it too far and stumbles into a serious scandal, she knows only one thing will save her—marriage, as soon as possible.

With only one summer to pick a husband, Charlotte invites all of England’s most eligible bachelors to an extravagant summer retreat at a country manor house. There’s a brooding artist, a wickedly handsome Russian prince, and one of the richest men in all of Europe...so why do her eyes keep sliding over to the Duke of Warrick, the only man who’s ever come close to breaking her heart?

Does Charlotte’s summer of suitors have any room for second chances?

Is it GORGEOUS?!?

Amanda, I’m so excited and can’t wait to frame this and hand it up. I’m blown away by your creativity and skill and will love this always! @scenesfrommyshelves

I’m also CRACKING UP at all the times they people have pointed me toward naughty and hilarious fabric art - it’s not nearly as niche as I thought and that makes perfect sense. Women have always been wild, subversive, and funny as hell.
