Coffee and currently reading ☕📖

Happy Friday bookworms! Anyone else sooooo ready for the weekend? I can't wait to sleep in and enjoy some quality reading time. It's been a hot minute since I've read a historical romance, one of my favorite genres, so when I saw a recent post of Just for the Season by @rachel.griffiths.writes that made me laugh AND drew me in, and then found it in Libby, I knew I needed to read it! In my happy place this morning enjoying this with my latte. Have a great weekend!

QOTD: Coffee or tea? How do you take it?

I’m just a girl, standing in front of the World Wide Web, begging the people to read the books I like. Is that so much to ask? Why else am I constantly online?

If you answered “you’re constantly online to start drama and to be grumbly about big releases everyone else is excited for and to be a mosquito in the ear of publishers” can you shut up? It was rhetorical.

The answer to why I’m always online is to get you all to read the books I love! Duh. And to mine threads for sht talking, but only I get to say that.

So here is a little reading guide of the books I’m begging you to read. We’ve got fantasy book recommendations, historical romance book recs, Romantasy and monster and fantasy romance, contemporary romance, and then whatever A Good Person falls into (besides my favorite book).

Look, I’m also not just begging you to read books. I’m also begging myself to get off my phone and read my TBR. How magnanimous.

And then we have a public service announcement that if you consider yourself my friend you are now in the warning period. You have 10 days left to finish Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb or our friendship is over. Just kidding 🤣 But our Realm of the Elderlings buddy read is in full swing, and we are having a blast. BUT YOU ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME. Do you even like me?

What is that one book you always recommend to friends?

You guys?! How has it already been four years of posting about books? And other rage bait tactics?

I just wanted to say that I appreciate each and every one of you who has been with me on this little journey. Reading is… one of my only two hobbies, and I love that I’ve been able to create this little space online with so many amazing people I consider my friends whether or not we’ve made it out of the group chat.

I thought I would do a little “what I have learned over the last four years,” but honestly I don’t really know much. I post about books. I talk to my friends. I try and fail at not comparing myself to others. I try to be original. I am always authentically me, though. And occasionally that seems to resonate. But occasionally I want to live laugh love off into the sunset and delete this account. But so far I have been able to pivot enough to keep this a place that brings me joy.

And what would a book post be without books?! I’ve dropped in four of my favorite books from the last four years. I love them all dearly, and I would recommend each and every one with my my life. And if I could convince you to do one thing over the next year it would either be to read Realm of the Elderlings or to try historical romance. I’m literally begging you.

Anyways, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT. How long have you been on booksta?!

If it isn’t obvious, I am fully obsessed with my little Tobleroni 🐶 I can’t believe how lucky we are to have him as part of our family 🥹 as such, I’m starting a new series! Every Tuesday, I’ll feature some of my fav books (with the help of Toby).

❓Do you have a favorite genre of books?

First up, histrom baby 🥰 my fav romance sub-genre! I grabbed a few of my 5-star reads to feature, and specifically kept it to one book per author in order to highlight 14 different authors. But trust that most of these authors have written more than one histrom that I adore 😍

Have an amazing day everyone 🩷

I’ve been designing Regency costumes for a stage play, so it was the perfect time to celebrate this one (with help from the fabulous cast!) . . .
.
A jaunty Regency romance in which an outspoken heiress commanded by the queen to find a husband by the end of the season invites a series of eligible suitors to her country estate, only to be saddled by the supervisory eye of her brother’s friend, the taciturn duke who ghosted her years earlier and who’s been struggling with his feelings ever since. The set-up provides plenty of opportunities for the two to spar and spark as he simmers with jealousy and desire, and as she baits him with witty teasing and a delightful talent for embroidering hidden insults into handkerchiefs for him. The history between the two lays a rich groundwork for big feelings early on, even as the pair avoids confronting what drove them apart years ago. With the help of a deliciously meddling grandmother and an attraction too strong to resist, eventually, the two can’t help but collide. I loved that the heroine co-owned and managed a textile mill, and my fashion-history-loving heart delighted in the descriptions of the jacquard loom, the embroidery, and the feather motif in the damask. We also get lots of other fun details about clothes, an exploration of the power of artistic expression, and several fabulous barbs about gender dynamics that still hit close to the mark in today’s society. It’s a fun, flirty, smart, sexy read, with an independent, modern-minded heroine, a noble hero wracked from the start by love and lust, a fabulous cast of supporting characters, and an empowering celebration of not just pushing back against the rules, but of overturning them completely, especially when love is on the line.
