POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I might delete this later, but I wanted to share the reality behind my finished art on the grid, as an artist recovering from a brain injury with an ‘invisible illness’. Drawing was part of my physio to help still my shaking hands, but the shakes still like to make themselves known sometimes despite me trying to keep still.🙃
Before the brain injury, I had hands of steel & never a wobble as I painted our house walls in bold colours with no masking tape in sight 💪😆

I’ll be able to tidy this painting up, but it’s a good example to share the million little things that people with invisible disabilities deal with every day. What you see on the grid is just the highlights 😉

No market stall for me tomorrow, so I had the chance to sit and paint this afternoon.

I’m working on a special project that is very dear to my heart, I’ll tell you about it next week 💜

Have a lovely weekend,
Rachel 🎨☕️

Hi there, hope your hump day’s going ok so far.

One of my favourite colour combinations ever is green & pink 💚🩷 especially a muted green with pop of pink, colour heaven!

I couldn’t resist keeping one of my new ‘Moths (Old Masters)’ art prints and framing it in this glassy frame I had, and hanging on a freshly painted muted green wall in our home. Aah that colour combo makes me smile everyday. What do you think?

Ps This art print is named after the ‘Old Masters’ oil paintings that inspired it. I love a bit of Art History, mostly modern art but I adore all those lovely old dark rich-coloured life studies of table tops arranged with flowers, goblets, animals and usually a good helping of fruit 🍇🍏 It was fun to have a go in my style, adding some beautiful moths.

Hiya!
I’ve been sharing my new ‘Owl in Hawthorn Tree’ print over on my @watercolour.sky account, then I remembered this is one of my gouache paintings that I actually documented the process for. I usually forget once I’m in the flow of painting 🙃

So here’s my progress from sketchbook gouache painting to finished print complete with wonky brushstrokes.

Hola! 👋

I’m slowly coming out of a really tough few years (understatement 😅) so I make sure to keep my space around me colourful, inspiring & positive.

One of the places it’s really important for me to do this is my art desk, the place where I draw and design everything. It’s not a big space but it’s perfect for me.

Right in my eyeline is this little porcelain flower that reminds me to ‘believe in yourself’. It’s a reminder that helps me every single time I look at it 🥰

And yes, my flower fairy pencil sharpener and beetle eraser are technically for kids, but they were too joyful not to have! 🧚‍♀️

Do you keep any little things near you to make you smile or inspire you?

Working on a really lovely project that I’ll tell you about soon. It’s not top secret or anything, just too early to share anything except these delicious paint colours.

Never ever EVER ai art here 😝
Proudly made from human intelligence 🧠🖐️✏️

5 reasons ai art* is rubbish:
*Visual art, writing, music, photography etc.

1. Environmental damage.

2. It’s so low quality it stinks.

3. Use your brain! Creativity is good for you! Keeping your mind active helps keep your brain healthy.

4. It’s theft. Typing prompts into a textbox to mash up stuff that’s stolen from other artists is no good for your esteem, let alone how the artists & creatives feel to be stolen from. Step away from the computer and BE ORIGINAL!

5. The joy of achievement! Your ai ‘creation’ will never belong to you. Do you want to be an artist, poet, photographer, writer? No one is stopping you from starting. You’ll never regret it!

Some Riso prints wrapped and ready for my stall at @stgeorgesbelfast this Saturday 🤩

Riso is a type of Japanese screenprint, the colours are vibrant like no other type of printing can do - that POP of pink is beeeautiful! 💖

These Riso prints were created for a Spring themed exhibition in Amsterdam a while ago. I took the theme of Spring and thought about the Equinox that marks the astronomical point where the day & night are perfectly balanced and nature starts to bloom again. Spring is my favourite season for sure 🌸🥰

I’ve got some very limited prints available to offer on the stall. I’m not sure if they’ll make it onto my Etsy shop yet as they are so limited, but if you’d like one and can’t make it to St George’s Market, message me and I can post one.

I’d love to do more Riso printing in future, those colours are too lovely not to play with!

Size: A5 (21 x 15cm) - £10.00
