Five years ago today, I started Range Energy.

The mission hasn’t changed: bring electrified trailer technology to the world and make our roadways safer, more efficient, and more convenient for drivers.

Five years of building, testing, and rebuilding got us to a product this whole team is confident will change our roadways for the better. We’re now on the final push to get it on the road at scale.

And there has never been a better time for Range to enter the market. When we started, the national average for diesel was about $3.39 a gallon. Today it’s over $6.50, and up to $8.50 in some parts of the country. With the potential to cut diesel operating costs by more than 60%, the Range e-trailer system is unmatched in impact per dollar invested. And fuel is only part of it. A Range e-trailer makes the drive itself safer and more convenient for the person behind the wheel.

It hasn’t been a straight line. There were painful stretches I wish had gone smoother. But we came through them, and I trust the team we have now completely.

Grateful to everyone at Range, and especially to Kyle, who has been here since day one leading the co-founding team and is now our CEO. I couldn’t ask for a better leader to take this the rest of the way.

This was a really fun one. Over 700 miles on the back of a single-cylinder scooter, half of it done alongside @thesmokingtire and @racing_ali on the way from Los Angeles to Monterey, all in three days time.

Charming, compact, and great for carving canyons without anyone around you noticing, the Vespa 310 is a hilariously fun time. You’d be hard pressed to have a better time on something with 3x the horsepower.

We saw otters and walrus, ate excellent meals, hopped around Monterey without the crowds of Car Week, and parked basically wherever we wanted. The Vespa 310 was a great ride along some of California’s best and most beautiful roads, received with smiles and thumbs up everywhere we went, and even with just 25 horsepower on tap, it was enough for long stretches of highway travel.

The fuel gauge is pessimistic enough to give you an anxiety attack if you’re not careful, but the Vespa returned as high as 70 mpg for me, with a still-astonishing low of around 40 mpg when we rode over the 105-degree mountain passes at speed. Oh and my new Seiko Prospex felt perfect on my wrist the whole way - a great, light riding watch.
