Phew, here we are 🤭. Some of you already know since we shared it with the @radswan gang last week, but I needed a hot minute to process before sharing it on here! All of a sudden reality shifted, it wasn’t the untold fantasy I had built in my mind anymore, or the secret it turned into when we signed the first term sheet hours before my birthday (that’s July!) - it got real, and everything else got wild, including the imposter syndrome and the need to retreat - I spent most of the year on/off social media, so being pulled back in with so much attention felt a bit unsettling 🙈⁣ ⁣ But I’m back! I won’t bore you with long captions, but there’s a LOT to say since I’ve kept you out of the loop for so long, right? So let’s split in chapters, shall we? 😎⁣ ⁣ This is Chapter 1: We’re making history!⁣ ⁣ HERE IT IS, we’ve (me, boosted by your support = we) raised $2m from an all-female group of kickass VCs, and the @radswan is about to bless us all with its birth in Spring 20 🎉! ⁣ ⁣ I know many of you wanted us to launch yesterday, and I didn’t want to tell you we couldn’t make it happen until next Spring without more explanation. ⁣ ⁣ Big Hair No Care took off in ways we couldn’t keep up with by end of last year, I needed backup and I’m so proud and thrilled to announce that we now have a solid gang, and you’re not ready for what’s coming…⁣ ⁣ Link for both articles are in the bio, rest of the story to follow in Chapter 2-4 😁❤️ taken in New York, New York by @freddieharrel

This year I want to share more, more of my wins, more of me simply. I was saying in my last IG live (saved on my feed!) that humility is great unless it's self-sabotage in disguise. 2020 forced me to check myself on that. I'm nervous to share my wins because it's showing off or I got lucky, nervous to share my joy when so many are struggling, nervous to share my pain when so many suffer more, scared to assert myself when people do me wrong because it must be me. Really, I'm keeping myself small, safe (so I think), when my core self clearly came with a powerful purpose and I'm failing at standing in its way so I might as well beam like I've always intended to..🌟 2021 you keep me in check okay, cause it ain't easy 👀 Take RadSwan, it's made of my whole self but it's more than a labour of love, it's the wonderful team we now are that gives it wings, our amazing investors - mentors through the craziest of years to launch a business, our beloved customers, those trusting us as we just get started. We start as an innovative product, but we're so much more, the soon to be leading conscious beauty brand built with, and for the African Diaspora 😎. It's not mine, and it's not about me. The inspiration other girls and women, other black girls and women might have watching my/our journey - it's not my design, we're all these instruments into other people's lives in ways we'll never know. I'm so proud and grateful for the outpouring of love we got from the press in just over a month, I mean, my name in Vogue, Glamour, The Times, etc. How on earth?!? I'm sharing these wins loud and proud now, they're meant to run their divine course, to uplift and inspire others like I benefit everyday from watching the world around me. Stay humble but make sure it's not a trap, leave your comfort zone, we all need your beaming light on our journey, so cast it bright baby and lift us high 🙌🏾 😎✨✨ taken in Sky is the Limit by @freddieharrel

The lovely @akili_ invited me for a conversation about my hair, the journey toward owning its texture, and affirming my beauty to feature in her wonderful #TextureDiaries series ✨ Such a lovely chat, and what I loved the most was talking about the process of accepting one's hair.  I don't have any tips to share to be honest, just a perspective I'd love your thoughts on too! When it comes to black hair, (the only hair I've ever had) I'd really invite us to see past the superficial aspect of it when seeking self-love and self-acceptance. It's not about its type, texture, length or volume and how beautiful it (fails to) make(s) us. It embodies so much more, it's like an entry point to self-discovery.  I like to believe that it was designed almost like a blueprint. History was going to scatter us all around the world so it would be our way back towards each other, an easy map to kinship, love and connection wherever we'd end up. By its very nature it makes us reliant on each other, it forces us to sit for hours with one another, touching each other's hands and heads. It prevents us from being shunned, and fills up the spaces we're raised in with intimacy and vulnerability. Hair is somehow involved in how I met most of the friends I've made since leaving Paris 10 years ago. Personally it's also a huge part of my mindfulness practice, caring for it in the evening, practicing my intuition and watching it react to my love over time like a garden, it's a meditation and an opportunity to look at my face and learn to love it more..❤️ Do you also see your hair as this holistic blueprint?
