What an incredible privilege to join @unicefaustralia at the Australia Pacific Youth Climate Dialogue in Fiji over the last three days - I’ve met the most extraordinary young people fighting for our future.

Hearing their stories is something everyone should experience, and I’m grateful I’ll get to share some with you soon (watch this space!)

Also pretty stoked I got to put my learned-on-the-job TV and radio knowledge to good use in running a workshop on how to get your story out there!

Heading home now with a heart full of equal parts determination and hope x by @raejohnston

Sukundimi Walks Before Me lands in Sydney tomorrow at Dumaresq St Cinema, Campbelltown!

🌟We’ll be joined by a stellar lineup for our post-film conversation, exploring what development means, Indigenous-led resistance and the campaign to protect the Sepik River in 🇵🇬from the proposed Frieda River gold and copper mine.

📅 Tuesday 29 September, 6PM, Dumaresq St Cinema, Campbelltown

Come watch this award-winning film and be part of the conversation with Shayanne Waide from @savethesepik2016, @abcradionational’s @raejohnston, @australianmuseum’s Melissa Sutton, Tetei Bakic from the Centre for Critical Indigenous Studies at Macquarie University and Luke Fletcher from Jubilee Australia.

Sukundimi Walks Before Me is more than a film; it’s a call of solidarity to protect the Sepik River and forests. It’s a global journey exploring a new vision for the future and questioning what true development looks like.🌏

And if you can’t make this one, we have two more screenings in Sydney before the tour wraps! 🎥

$15 tickets for Pasifika and First Nations communities, $5 for kids!

What would you do to protect your home?

This is one of the core questions at the centre of award-winning documentary Sukundimi Walks Before Me and one of the subjects we’ll be tackling in a conversation following the film with Shayanne Waide from @savethesepik2016, Luke Fletcher from @jubileeaus, Melissa Sutton from @AustralianMuseum and teteibakictapim from @macquarieuni Centre for Critical Indigenous Studies.

Our conversation will be inspired by the film, which documents Sepik communities’ resistance to a proposed gold-copper mine located near the river’s waters. It is a story of resilience and collective refusal in the face of extraction.

We can choose a future beyond extractivism, where we protect our homes, culture and biodiversity, guided by the thriving leadership of Indigenous communities to protect land, water and lives.

Screening on 29 September at 6pm at Dumaresq St Cinema Campbelltown. Tickets at the link in my bio and in my stories x
