APYCD Outcome Statement: Pre-COP31 Australia Pacific Youth Climate Dialogue | Nadi, Fiji 🌏

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to be one of 66 delegates representing their countries at the Pre-COP Youth Dialogue.

I’ll forever be grateful to have been a voice in those rooms and to share thoughts with amazing young world leaders.

A big shout-out to young Alex from Tonga — you were a superstar, and I cannot wait to see you do some amazing things throughout your life!

Meeting young people from across the world who are fighting for the same cause was truly inspiring.

So, let’s say a giant rock falls out of space and lands in your backyard.

Congratulations! You’re now the proud owner of a meteorite.

Or ARE YOU?

Turns out the question of who owns a meteorite is surprisingly complicated. According to @raejohnston the answer can depend on where it lands, who finds it and which laws apply.

But what happens when that rock isn’t just scientifically valuable? What if it’s also sacred to a community that’s known about it for thousands of years?

In this episode of Stuff the British Stole, we investigate the extraordinary story of an Australian meteorite, its journey to a British museum and the fight to bring it home.

Watch FIRE STAR ROCK from Season 3 of Stuff the British Stole on @abciview in Australia and @bbcselect in the US and Canada.

It was a real pleasure to join Rae Johnston and Lorenn Ruster for this week’s Download This Show on Radio National, discussing "Could your AI agent end humanity?"

🎧 Listen here: https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/downloadthisshow/ai-agents-medicare-deepfakes/107173224

Could your AI agent end humanity?

AI agents are popping up everywhere: Facebook, OpenAI, Google. Meanwhile, tech leaders like Mark Zuckerberg and Sam Altman are warning these agents could end humanity. So, how much of this is a marketing tool, and what threat do AI agents actually pose?

We'll return to the basics: what are AI agents, and how much should you be trusting them with? What happens if your AI agent, say... hacks into Medicare?

Plus, deepfakes are distorting the Victorian election. What are deepfakes, how do you know you've seen them, and how are they legal in an election campaign?

GUESTS:

* Dr Lorenn Ruster, senior research fellow at the ANU Leadership & Complexity Lab.
* Tama Leaver, Professor of Internet Studies at Curtin University, and Chief Investigator at the ARC Centre for Excellence for the Digital Child.

This episode was produced on the lands of the Gadigal, Burramattagal, Darug, Gundungurra, and Wurundjeri peoples.

* Rae Johnston, Presenter
* Jessie Kay, Producer
