Obedience is what you did by sending the email. Ownership is what happened because you did it.

Imagine two employees who are both asked to send an important email to a client.

The first sends it and marks the task as complete. The second sends it, checks that the information is correct, follows up when necessary and confirms the client’s response.

Both employees sent the email. But they did not demonstrate the same level of ownership. The second employee understands that the email is not the ultimate goal. It is a means to an end. That mindset changes how you work. You stop measuring your contribution by the number of tasks you complete and start examining the value those tasks create.

Save this as a reminder to look beyond the activity and pay attention to the outcome.

Have you ever noticed that a problem feels much bigger when you are right in the middle of it?

When you are dealing with the pressure, the disappointment or the uncertainty, it is easy to feel like everything is falling apart.

But sometimes, you need to take a step back. Distance gives you perspective.

And perspective helps you see that what feels overwhelming today may not be as big as you think.

Don’t make permanent decisions based on temporary pressure. Learn to step back, look at the bigger picture and approach the situation with a clearer mind.

Sometimes, the problem hasn’t changed. You have simply changed your perspective.

Loyalty to a company is great, but competence is what keeps the company moving forward.

Staying in a company for years is one thing, but what value are you bringing to the table?

Should loyalty earn you a promotion, or should competence speak for itself?

Let’s hear your thoughts.

I once worked under a leader who called a meeting every time something went wrong.

Everybody would sit there while he talked and talked. The next day, the person who caused the problem would still not have been addressed.

One day I raised my hand. “Sir, all of these things you have said, I didn’t do any of them.
Who is the person? Address the person. Leave me alone.”

Many leaders cannot confront poor performance. Maybe you like the person. Maybe they are more confident than you. Maybe they knew you before you got to where you are now.

So everybody gets the lecture, and the one person who needs it gets nothing.
Pruning is part of care. Everybody only wants the watering.

Revenue is not profit, profit is not cash.

Company money is not personal money, and a profitable company can still die from poor cashflow.

Once you have to fight for things to be right, you have hired wrongly. The right person already has a standard.

You end up fighting for every little thing to be done right, constantly supervising, correcting mistakes and fixing problems that shouldn’t exist in the first place.

Before you know it, the very person you hired to help your business grow become the reason you cant move forward. You cannot scale a business when you have to fight to get the basics right.
