We celebrated 50 years celebration of Black British Composer Samuel's work and a one man show by Tayo Aluko a play inspired by Pan Africanist classical musician Samuel story's told through the eyes of his nephew!

The night also featured performances from piano, cello soloists an opera singer @railey.bailey and 20 piece Brass band orchestra playing Samuel's most famous works.

This piece is “Gelido in Ogni Vena”, from the Opera Farnace - by Antonio Vivaldi.

The Opera is about King Farnace of Pontus, an ancient region in what is now known as North Eastern Turkey, who has been defeated in battle. To prevent his family from being captured by the Romans, he commands his wife to kill their son and then herself.

His wife can’t bring herself to do it and hides their son in a mausoleum instead.

“Gelido in Ogni Vena” translates as cold in every vein and comes at a moment of extreme fear and grief. Farnace believes his young son has been killed, and sings this aria in horror at what he feels he has been forced to do - imagining his child’s ghost and feeling his own blood turn to ice while experiencing the various stages of grief and realisation. It’s an intense lament scene, yet such a beautiful composition - hence choosing this piece to perform.

On that note, I hope you enjoy this piece! by @railey.bailey
