For most of high school, Ace figured he'd graduate and go straight to work. Then he watched his mom, Felicia, go back for her own degree, and college started to look possible.

Now, Felicia is attending San Diego State and Ace is studying at Grossmont. Both are #NRCF scholars, making it possible for one household to carry two sets of books, two commutes and two people's everyday costs.

Ismael grew up in San Diego in a single-parent household. During his senior year of high school, he applied for roughly 40 scholarships.

He heard back from one: National Rainbow College Fund.

That award helped fund his education and let him access support without having to disclose his sexuality to his family, his community, or anyone else.

"Students should not have to choose between protecting personal parts of their lives and accessing the resources that can help them stay on track academically."
Today, Ismael is studying political science at UC Santa Barbara, with plans to attend law school and pursue a career in immigration law, a path shaped in part by watching his grandmother navigate immigration court.

Des was 15 when they became a ward of the state. Today, they're graduating with honors and heading to grad school. What made the difference? Stability. 🌈

An NRCF scholarship can mean help arriving before things get hard. That’s what it meant for Des. Read their full story on our blog.

We’ve got big news to celebrate. 🌈

This year, NRCF awarded scholarships to 100 LGBTQ+ students. Since our founding, we've now reached 280 scholars across the country.

This year's scholarship cohort reflects the full range of what it means to pursue a college degree while navigating financial pressure, family responsibilities and, for many, doing so without a visible support system. Many scholars are first-generation college students. All of them showed up and kept going.

None of this is possible without our donors and partners. If you've ever given to NRCF, thank you, this is a celebration of you, too. 🎉

The end of #PrideMonth doesn’t mean the end of #LGBTQ+ storytelling.

In our latest blog, @makenzijordan reflects on this year’s LGBTQ+ #MediaRelations campaigns and what they taught her about connecting with audiences through history, education and lived experiences.

Community shows up for community. 🌈

We were so pleased to serve as a sponsor for @lgbtcenter's LGBTQ+ Luminaries Lunch earlier this month, a beautiful celebration of the people and organizations lighting the way forward.

It was an afternoon dedicated to people making a real difference for San Diegans and an inspiring reminder of what's possible when communities come together.

Grateful to be part of it. ✨ by @rainbowcollegefund

A scholarship is more than dollars. 🌈

“NRCF sees education as protection. And I think that framing captures the heart of this work beautifully,” Michael Burlow, NRCF Volunteer Reviewer

Michael has spent two years reading the stories students share on their scholarship applications. What he has witnessed has changed how he thinks about education, safety and community.

Nearly 50% of NRCF scholars are not fully out. Our privacy-first model exists so students never have to choose between their safety and their future.

Pride can look different for every student.

For some LGBTQ+ students, being visible can affect family support, housing stability or personal safety.

Powered by San Diego Foundation, National Rainbow College Fund provides privacy-first scholarships so students can pursue higher education without having to publicly share their identity or story.

This Pride Month, we’re honoring support that protects students’ privacy, stability and future.

Every student should feel safe pursuing their education. 🌈

For many students, being fully open about who they are can still come with real risks, including losing housing, tuition support or family acceptance.

National Rainbow College Fund provides privacy-first scholarships designed to help students continue their education without being asked to compromise their safety.

As we enter the final days of this fundraising campaign, your gift can help protect access to #HigherEducation for students across California.
