It was our great privilege this morning to launch the metropolitan Adelaide pilot of Shaping Deadly Minds. A warm thank you to the team at Taikurrendi Children and Family Centre for hosting us in their beautiful space!

We were lucky enough to be joined by authors @scott_b_johnson_author and @suziejohnsonbooks for a very special reading of their book Finding My Culture, which is included in all Shaping Dealy Minds book and resource packs for families. The packs provide families with culturally relevant resources that support children to build important early language and literacy skills through yarning, playing, storytelling and singing with the caring adults in their lives.

Under the guidance of our Aboriginal Leadership Group, as well as all the Aboriginal leaders, community and service providers who have walked alongside us, we have developed a program with culture and identity at the centre, supporting children to develop strong literacy foundations while growing up proud of their culture and who they are.

We’re thrilled to see the joy on the faces of children taking home books and resources they can see themselves reflected in.

An extra special thank you to Niina Marni Aunties Maureen and Naomi from Spirit in Unity for welcoming us to Kaurna Country and demonstrating the power of song in shaping the minds of our little ones.

This program has been proudly codesigned and developed in partnership with WeCreate, MTL Consulting Services, Kimberly Wanganeen Consultancy, SAAETCC and our Aboriginal Leadership Group.

Shaping Deadly Minds has been made possible through the generous support of private and philanthropic donors, including @fireflychildrensfoundation, @theadvertiserfoundation and @minderoofoundation. by @raisingliteracyaus

We're delighted to share that The Thing About Christmas has been named an Honour Book in the Early Childhood category at the 2026 Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Awards!

Congratulations to Jo Dabrowski and Briony Stewart on this wonderful and well-deserved recognition.

This award is particularly meaningful to us. It reflects our commitment to supporting children's early language and literacy development through our publishing house, Little Book Press – creating high-quality books for young readers and the adults who share stories with them.

Thank you to the CBCA, and congratulations to all of the talented Australian authors and illustrators recognised at this year's awards. by @raisingliteracyaus

Every child deserves to see themselves in the stories they read.

Seeing the children of Kaurna Plains School and Children's Centre recognise themselves in the pages of Finding My Culture was a deeply moving reminder of why representation matters.

Children and educators gathered at the launch to hear the story from debut authors Scott Bromley Johnson, a proud Adnyamathanha man, and Suzie Johnson, and illustrator Thomas Readett, a Ngarrindjeri man born and raised on Kaurna Country.

And every young learner received a copy for their home library.

Published by our publishing arm @littlebookpress Finding My Culture is based on a true story that follows a child’s journey to connect with their identity and embrace their culture.

It is also the first picture book published for distribution through our upcoming adaptation of the @wordsgrowminds campaign, co-designed with Aboriginal leaders, community, and service providers, to support and improve literacy outcomes for Aboriginal children – made possible with the support of private and philanthropic donors, including Firefly Foundation, The Advertiser Foundation and the Minderoo Foundation.

We’re honoured to have received the Community Contribution Award from @speechpathaus for our @wordsgrowminds program.

This recognition is deeply meaningful to our team, and we’d like to extend our sincere thanks to the Association.

This award is a wonderful acknowledgement of the cross-sector collaboration at the heart of Words Grow Minds – the relationships fostered and the commitment so many have shown to improving developmental outcomes for children in the early years.

Speech pathologists have always been phenomenal advocates for the benefits of talking, playing, reading, and singing for brain and communication development, and have been an invaluable resource in building the evidence base for the program.

We’re proud of what we’ve achieved together and excited about what’s still to come! by @raisingliteracyaus

Yesterday we had the joy of visiting local libraries as communities across Australia came together for National Simultaneous Storytime.

To see children laughing, joining in, listening closely and sharing stories together was incredibly special, because we know these moments help build the language, literacy and social-emotional skills needed to thrive.

We're so grateful to @alianational for creating and championing this event, and proud to see Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller, published by our @littlebookpress team, shared with millions of young readers across the country.

A huge thank you to the City of Unley, City of West Torrens and City of Playford for welcoming us.

And thank you to the librarians, educators, families, booksellers, volunteers and event organisers who made today so engaging for children everywhere.

Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week.

This year’s theme, ‘All In’, calls for all Australians to commit to reconciliation every day.

We acknowledge that we all have a role to play in building communities that centre the knowledge and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and are committed to fostering a shared path forward.

This means improving access to early language and literacy resources developed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creators, to tell Australia’s stories from their perspective, and provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families the opportunity to see themselves, their communities and their culture reflected in books, stories and other learning materials – something we’re wholeheartedly committed to.

You will find our team at Tauondi Aboriginal College in Port Adelaide tomorrow for Reconciliation in the West, supporting Martinthi-InCompro and Uniting Care Wesley Bowden.

If you’re looking for ways to get involved with National Reconciliation Week, visit reconciliation.org.au
