Birthday Book Shop Book Crawl number 6 - @beaufortstreetbooks 📚 First visit to their gorgeous new (ish!) shop and it was lovely to see @rachaeljohnsisanauthor there. Apologies for the giddy hello! Today I took an incredibly excited EBW to the City to meet one of their favourite authors @aliceoseman. The queue snaked around almost all of @dymockshayst, making it a bit overwhelming for YBW so we left for the toy section at Kmart! EBW, unlike many Perth teens, is actually really familiar with the CBD as we regularly attend events etc there, but I was really proud of them for navigating it all on their own. When EBW finally (50mins later! It’s ok, they just read books as they moved!) made it to Alice, there were no words just sheer joy! Thanks Alice for coming to Perth ahead of your weekend at the @briswritersfest, we have one very happy teen here ❤️ #heartstopper #booksigning #graphicnovel #teenreading #perth by @raisingwildreaders

Another day another shout out to our amazing local libraries! On Friday, EBW and I went to Alpaca Storytime at Duncraig library @joondaluplibraries. Pickle and Misty were very curious, particularly Pickle who kept breaking free and going to meet other library patrons! We listened to their owner read Macca the Alpaca by @matt.cosgrove, got the chance to give strokes (they’re soooo soft!), and then crafted our own alpaca to take home. At $5, this was an affordable local activity, and many families came early to do other library activities and stayed afterwards to read, borrow, and explore. #alpacas #schoolholidays #reading #libraries #literacy by @raisingwildreaders

Spotted @joondaluplibraries today - not one but two book clubs! One for 10-13 yo and one for 14-17, see photos or the library website for more details! EBW is keen to go to the YA one, IF we can fit it in to their busy schedule (I’ll find a way!). As the mum of a teen, it can be hard to find activities, especially during the holidays, for secondary-aged kids, so a huge thank you to the library team for these opportunities and for Potion Making today ❤️ #librariansrock #libraries #bookclubs #teenreaders #youngadultfiction by @raisingwildreaders

If you are in or near Perth over the next week, I wholeheartedly recommend getting tickets to &Juliet performed by the phenomenally talented @waapa.ecu students at @regaltheatre. Shakespeare and 90/00s pop music, what’s not to love?? I’m here with EBW, they’re 14 and also loving it (we’ve seen it before). They have been studying Shakespeare at school this term so there’s an added layer to their understanding and they’re laughing at so many of the in-jokes with me this time. by @raisingwildreaders

Book Launch: 'The Cairo Bridal Shop' by Tess Woods

What a fantastic way to end Book Week with a book launch! I've been counting down the days until I could get my hands on Tess Woods' latest novel and hear the conversation between her and @sashawasley_author.

Firstly the book cover is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. The colours, the gold stars, the needle in the centre of the word 'Cairo". Wow!

Tess and her "bestie" Sasha engaged the sold out theatre at @ststephensschool with Tess sharing her love for her Nanna, her family history, leaving Egypt as a child (you're correct Tess, its never for Centrelink, this migrant concurs), and the fabulously funny story about her own wedding dress and her bridal night underwear!

I'm sorry for babbling when it was my turn to have my book signed Tess - you are a local legend and a wonderful human. And I couldn't agree more with what you said about peace and I'm sorry if that's meant you aren't being invited to speak at book events. Their loss ❤️

We can't wait to make your shortbread and I can't wait to escape into your book and to Egypt.
