@phsgardening’s Flower Show in February Part 1

Philadelphia’s Flower Show is the biggest in the Western Hemisphere and draws talent and enthusiasts from all over.

From large installations to miniatures to everything in between, the show is massive and overwhelming and exhausting and awe inspiring. The camera cannot possibly capture it.

Yet, I left with some of my favorite photos of the year from it. So much detail, so much color.

Much thanks to @obrienad for the invitation, and for standing with @shreyasen4 and me in line for almost an hour as we slowly snaked our way in. Will definitely try and time it better next year.

Highlights from the @phillyautoshow in January

Even though I don’t drive often, I love cars and go to the Auto Show every year. They do a great job of showing a mix of new models, sports cars, vintage antiques, hand built cars, luxury cars, specialty campers and trucks, and the occasional supercar.

This was also a good avenue to try out some manual focus lenses, and practice framing and focusing by hand.

The Afrofuturism exhibit at @aampmuseum featuring stellar samples from the long and storied career of @therealruthcarter was one of my favorite exhibits this year. I’d never been to the African American Museum of Philadelphia before and what an introduction!

It was amazing to see real costumes from such incredible films like Black Panther and Sinners up close. And decades more of significant film costume design!

I love design, and it was great to see so many colors, materials, and motifs brought together. Exhibits like this make me appreciate modern fashion design and couture even more.

Happy New Year! We are finally getting to 2026 😂

This @phillycreate snow shoot was one of the first things I did this year. This has been my favorite new community to find. It’s quite amazing to be among a large group of photographers, models, creators, creatives, and artists, all just creating. I don’t even know their names, most just faces and Instagram handles. But I know their work, and can usually pretty quickly identify by the pictures.

Having worked in Software Engineering for the last 20+ years, I’ve had the great privilege to spend time with a great many intelligent people. A photographer’s intelligence is a very different flavor: more grounded, more fluid, less constrained by organizational requirements, and very immediate. As much a feel as it is a plan. A truly wonderful complement to my primary medium.

I’ve come to really enjoy the PhillyCreate community, and will share much more work with them this year soon.

Miami in the Fall Part 6

I am a huge fan of dance, live music, burlesque, and jaw dropping performances. @faenamiamibeach’s Carmen hit them all out of the park. It was one of THE BEST SHOWS I’ve EVER seen IN MY LIFE.

Faena captures a polished, practiced sexiness that I quite relish. Each and every one of the performers was masterful. The grand finale featuring @elementaldancer’s pyro circling was hypnotic and mesmerizing. Truly awed.

If you’re ever in Miami Beach, I would highly, HIGHLY recommend checking out whatever show Faena is doing at the time. They are one of the most talented teams in the country. In the very least, you will get to experience seeing a golden mammoth skeleton.

Thanks to @valentinkawellness for recommending this, and joining me in seeing it live.

Miami Beach’s art deco district is one of the most vibrant places at night. I love the hotels, the cars, the colors, the people. It’s a vibe. And I like it.

Miami in the Fall Part 4

I’m not much of a beach person, but Miami’s beaches, or rather Miami Beach’s beaches, are truly something to experience.

It really drives home the importance of public places. Where people can go to just be. To feel the earth, touch the ocean, and feel connected to this world.

Miami in the Fall Part 3

White and blue are the colors of Miami’s architecture in my mind, with flecks of tan and chestnut thrown in. And the iconic palm trees. They make such a uniform palette, that any other color really pops.

I also love the art deco and mid-century aesthetics that permeate the city. Great foil to the more modern skyscrapers.

Since the skyscrapers are not all clustered in the downtown area, but spread across many clumps across the city, in this manner Miami resembles big Asian cities way more than American.

Miami in the Fall Part 2

I love going to art museums in every city I visit. Miami has a distinct aesthetic in contemporary art, quite different than what is normally seen in the Northeast: vibrant, bold, polished, and plastic.

The @nsuartmuseum was a delight, featuring both classic and modern art. The Surrounded Islands exhibit was impressive, I had no idea of the scale of that project. Also saw some 1910-s era paintings by Glackens that were inspired by Indian deities.

I also stopped by @chicevolutioninart and @gemspire_gallery in Las Olas Blvd, and saw some striking work. Very fun.
