🤠 That’s a wrap on #PSTM2026.

My highlight of our conference in Houston was the premiere of “The Making of a Surgeon,” a film on how our partners in Rwanda built a thriving plastic surgery training program from the ground up. Watching their story on the big screen, then celebrating over dinner with SHARE leadership and the Rwandan team, was unforgettable. 🇷🇼

Proud to join our SHARE panel, “From Missions to Systems,” on moving global surgery from short-term trips to sustainable, locally-led training. Great to reconnect with the Mission Plasticos and Operation Smile families too!

Humbled to be named one of 9 PSF Visiting Professors this cycle, in great company. 🙏

Plenty of time for homegrown love: time with the UCI Plastic Surgery crew, a Harvard alumni event where I caught up with three of my residency classmates, and a bonus visit with my resident cousin Mili and nephew Aman. And yes, we even got to catch an impromptu Weezer show. 🎸 (Thanks to Miles Pfaff, Lamvy Le, and Jen Tang for keeping the “Buddy Holly” energy alive)

Grateful for this inspiring com. ❤️

Ten years, full circle. 🧡
Yesterday our UCI Plastic Surgery family — faculty, trainees, and residents — laced up for the 10th Annual UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge, rocking our “Flap Cancer” hats during a group 5K and raising over $1,500 for cancer research at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Nine years ago, @bhavana_raj_vyas and I ran the very first ACC together during her Heme/Onc fellowship here at UCI. Seeing it grow into a campus-wide tradition, and having our whole department engaged, meant a lot. Many of us lost family, friends, colleagues and mentors to cancer this past decade… we honor their spirit and memory.
Huge thanks to our residency wellness chairs @ashananda.md and @drtinazhu and @elena_carraby for rallying the team . Here’s to the next decade. 🎗️

It was a privilege and joy to spend the last few days with the plastic surgery faculty and residents at University of New Mexico as a PSF Visiting Professor. We were able to discuss so much: Our emerging understanding of neonatal airway obstruction, advances in neuroplastic reconstruction, and disruptive approaches to global surgical capacity-building with approaches like PSF’s SHARE initiative. The highlights were heading to the BioSkills cadaver lab to practice a full face transplant with Lefort 3 osteotomy and our shoes-free yoga session with UNM branded mats for the whole team!

Thank you Dr Shetty, Dr Wu, Dr Borha and all the wonderful residents for your hospitality, thoughtful discussions, laughs, and open-mindedness. Thank you also for welcoming my wife, Bhavana… we loved exploring the historic lands and culture of Albuquerque and checking out the beautiful Annual Balloon Fiesta - an absolute spectacle!

Recap of Day 2 with our visiting professor Dr. Vyas from UC Irvine! Started our morning with breakfast, a talk on global surgery, the SHARE program, and augmented reality, and finished our day with a wellness exercise in yoga led by Dr. Vyas! Swipe to see how well our residents can be 🧘 and the custom UNM Plastics yoga mats generously gifted by Dr. Vyas! 😍

Thank you Dr. Vyas for coming to spend time with our residents!!
