Just me and gardening, sometimes getting it right, sometimes not but always enjoying the process 😊

POSTS STORIES REELS

Day 12 of #littleautumnthings - 'Autumn colours' gets a post of it's own rather than a story.

Slightly turned around @vicki_grows_a_garden daily challenge to 'colours seen on an autumn day'!

So not all photos are what we generally see as this season's colours🧡❤️💛🤎 but a record of colour seen out and about on an Autumn day and in my garden.

I couldn't include all the Christmas colour seen at Birkacre Garden Centre, that would be stretching it too far!! But the beautiful Cersis tree they have there features ❤️💛🧡🩷 as do the crab apples, they remind me so much of my childhood❤️💛

#Servedwithimagination2026

This year's creative coffe morning challenge fund raiser hosted by Jan @theflowermummysgarden for Macmillan cancer support 💚

My prompt was 'TEACUP'
First thoughts...storm in a teacup! Not great!

Ideas? none!🤷🏼‍♀️but thought a white china teacup would be a start, maybe I could try and use some of my dried flowers?

Charity shops here I come as there's no china teacups here, you get a builders brew in an EB mug!

No white tea cups to be found but did find 2 cute glass cups, purchased for their cute factor! (Swipe to see)

Idea💡 fill the teacup with dried flowers, the glass would show them off...too small!

Eventually found this larger glass teacup and there's no storm in it, just dried flowers from my summer garden of 2026 ,including the moss!💚

Loved doing this🌸 hardest part was photographing it!🌸

Thank you for hosting Jan💚 by @ramble_bramble_

The last day of summer started withTuesday tai chi and breakfast with my tai chi buddies, then home to the heavy lifting💪
It was the perfect day, still, bright and not too warm
These borders have had some changes over the summer and many changes need/needed to be made, they struggled!! More on this in a later post.
Today was a good day to make a start, with lots of rest breaks in-between barrowing the compost and enjoying what's still in flower in the garden in the September light🌸 by @ramble_bramble_

As we approach Autumn here's a little look back at my summer garden and it's produce! 🌸🥒🍅

Having felt from late July it really had done it's time, with our summer weather this year taking it's toll🥵 I now have a lovely way to remind myself that actually it did good!

Thank you garden 🌸💚 by @ramble_bramble_

This once unloved corner has been my favourite spot this year🌸 I've so many photos and it's hard to select the best from them all but hopefully you get a flavour of the space I've enjoyed🌸

The container gardening has allowed me to grow plants I would somehow lose in the garden borders🤷🏼‍♀️🌸

The 'plastic grass' is something I wouldn't choose to use but a left over piece from garden alterations fitted this space perfectly, disguised the awful concrete and made the area so much cleaner and brighter.

I've pot shuffled, removed and replaced as plants have finished over the months, sometimes it looks just right, sometimes not quite so. I loved it all the same!

It's been alive with pollinators 🐝🦋and birds drinking from the little water fountain I have amongst it all, my daughter's cat stopped by for a drink too(next door neighbours!) ❤️

Next spring it will all start again, I don't think I'll plant and pot shuffle for the winter!❄️

Some favourites will return next year, and like this year, much of it will be grown from seed🌱
And when I look out of my kitchen window I can say 'I grew that!' 🌱🌸💚 by @ramble_bramble_

I've wanted to make a filing cabinet planter after I saw one on here a few years ago. The itch to make one wouldn't go away!🗄
A very special young man came to the rescue! 🗄 Thank you @harveygilly.priv 🫶

I loved the rusty look some have created but I wasn't brave enough so went for my go to colour in the home and garden- green!
This is Good Home garden 'Ravensdale' it's darker on the tin but I'm happy with the result.

Drainage holes were made and it stands on some disc planter feet so I'm hoping there wont be any issues.
The fatsia was planted in a pot to keep it small, time will tell if it works and stays happy. Changes can always be made.

I have several shady areas in my garden that I struggle to create effectively and maintain, just cant get them right,🤷🏼‍♀️I'm hoping I've cracked this little shady spot in a very unloved space, more about that in another post!💚 by @ramble_bramble_

I loved the simplicity of these Canaliculatus in a terracotta pot

Raindrops on ami.
A magical moment when we once had rain! It's been my favourite flower to photograph this year. Successfully grown from seed at last, this flower holds special meaning 🤍 to see the raindrops on it was a garden glimmer that had to be captured✨️

Posy parade Cara

Apart from the feverfew this posy was grown from seed containing a new favourite, rat tail statice! ( Limonium) by @ramble_bramble_

I think this has been my favourite flower grown from seed this year💜

It was a dream to germinate(already being pre stratified) thank you @thehampshireseedcompany, the seedlings grew steadily throughout the winter in an unheated greenhouse.

Hardened off for sometime they were ready to plant out in March...disaster!! The first few were planted out in the borders, they died😕 inspite of many interventions once I could see they were struggling. I think it was a spell of very strong winds and they just couldn't cope!

The remaining seedlings were nervously planted out in April in the cut flower bed and went from strength to strength💜🩷🤍

They make gorgeous cut flowers, are so pretty dried and as a pressed flower💜

They're finishing now and I'll collect seeds ready to grow more next year...lots more! 💜🩷🤍 by @ramble_bramble_

This is the story of a very special flower🌸

Special because it has grown from seeds kindly sent to me from Stacy @transform_no10.

I was so excited to receive seeds from someone elses garden and grow them in mine.

I've grown it in a pot as I've never managed to keep hollyhocks alive in the borders.

How amazing and kind is it that someone in my phone, part of the lovely garden gram community, has taken the time to send me seeds from a flower I commented on in her garden 🩷

I've loved watching this grow, I really wasn't expecting flowers this year! ( can't stop taking photos) and I've several others that will flower next year now🌸

Stacy,I have one peach hollyhock seedling that I'm guarding with my life after attacks from the tiniest caterpillar and a leaf cutter bee🐛🐝
I also grew one of Papa Jack's marigolds 🧡 it's so tall and there's lots of buds on it, it lives in the greenhouse.

Thank you so much for the seeds😍 by @ramble_bramble_

Some stills from my morning wander on this cooler July day 🌸 by @ramble_bramble_

Not all is as it seems...
This vase of snapdragons, with colours that remind me of dolly mixtures, may look pretty but scroll through and see what's really going on...

It hasn't been a good year at all for me with these, they have the dreaded rust, a fungal infection that affects snaps and they really haven't grown well at all.

They started out as strong seedlings and I was hopeful for huge bunches of snaps to make wonderful bouquets! 💐 we all have that vision don't we!

I haven't planted them any differently to how I always do and I know not to overhead water but something just wasn't in my favour this year.
Will I grow them again?
Of course I will, they along with sweet peas are a must every year! 🌸 by @ramble_bramble_

In and around the greenhouse the 1st week in July. Temperatures have reached dizzy heights on occasion, 52°! They seem to sit around 48° during the day at the moment, too warm to spend long in there! 🥵
A cooler evening allowed for a much needed sort and tidy🧹
Tomatoes have had some of their leaves removed and all are producing fruit albeit a little slow right now🍊
The chillies and pepper are loving the heat, I've no idea what I'm growing as I mixed up the seeds! 🌶
Lots of watering required including keeping the floor damp to help reduce the temperature and prevent spider mites.
Can't wait to harvest the first tomato! Which one will it be I wonder?! by @ramble_bramble_
