Think back to those moments when you believed something was out of reach, yet your heart held onto hope and prayer. When that dream became reality, did you pause to thank the Lord for His guidance?

I remember praying for a spot in medical school, and now, I’m proud to say I’ve matched and am studying in the United States. Yet, amid my joy, I wonder: have I shown enough gratitude for my blessings? I believe none of us can ever thank God enough.

Let us be grateful for today and every day.

And suddenly the words “I have matched” came out of my mouth. My father told me in the morning, advance mein Mubarak wasool krlo hogya huwa hai apka. My mother innocently told me l always pray k bs jahan aapka dil ho whin pe number 1 choice mein hojae. My sister got excited k machi biya ab tm resident bn gai ho, over mt ho. And my husband keeps telling me how proud he is of me. In all these years, I have seen people putting status and celebrating their Match but you never know until you experience something yourself. I know the pain of feeling lost when you are not on the winning side but trust me, your time will come and when that happens, you’ll not be the only one to celebrate. The whole world will celebrate your success! In all honesty, I want you all to know, hardwork never goes to waste! I, RAMISA SARWAR, is an incoming PGY-1 resident in US-an IMG from Pakistan, a first generation doctor who was once told, she can’t aim for US residency because she was a girl born in a middle class family and it’s not possible for girls to go abroad unless they have a husband or family settled there. I didn’t agree so I changed the narrative and SO SHOULD YOU! by @ramisasarwar.md

“If God has brought me this far and planted a dream in my heart, it’s not just to leave me halfway.”

I fought for four years to be allowed to pursue the USMLE.

I waited nearly a year for a visitor visa and missed the last match cycle.

I received 11 interviews, got matched, and then faced the heartbreak of a visa rejection.

I reapplied, was approved, and prepared to fly-only to have my boarding denied again, after two scheduled flights.

I didn’t shed a tear. I booked the next flight because l’ve learned the art of patience.

What’s meant for me will never miss me.
And what’s not meant for me, no force in the world can give.

Crying because you’re living an answered prayer just hits different. 🥹🤍

Like… Allah really heard me??? Me???
The girl who questioned herself a thousand times.
The girl who cried after failed plans, waited through uncertainty, and wondered if the USMLE journey would ever work out.

And then one day, you’re standing in the life you once prayed for. 🥹✨

To every IMG studying for USMLE, doing observerships, building their CV, applying year after year, or waiting for that Match email- please keep going.

You may not see it yet, but every late night, every rejection, every sacrifice, every “maybe this isn’t meant for me” moment is shaping a story you’ll one day look back on with tears in your eyes.

Allah is listening. Your timeline is not His timeline. And your dream is not too big for Him. 🤍

One day, you might just cry because you’re finally living the prayer you used to cry while making.

Keep going, future resident. Your “answered prayer” moment may be closer than you think. 🩺🇺🇸✨

⚠️ Trigger warning: swelling

If this carousel doesn’t scream ‘life is unpredictable’, I don’t know what does.

I had planned a beautiful birthday weekend- something to look forward to, celebrate, and remember. Instead, I found myself spending it in emergency rooms and doctors’ offices, dealing with something I never saw coming.

Happy birthday to me, I guess. 🥲

But maybe life isn’t always about how perfectly things go according to plan. Sometimes, it’s about accepting the unexpected, finding strength in the uncomfortable moments, and reminding yourself that this too shall pass.

A little reminder to myself and maybe to anyone reading this: we can’t control what happens to us, but we can choose how we carry ourselves through it. 🤍
