-The Art of Gratitude and Ignorance*

Think back to those moments when you believed something was out of reach, yet your heart held onto hope and prayer. When that dream became reality, did you pause to thank the Lord for His guidance?

I remember praying for a spot in medical school, and now, I’m proud to say I’ve matched and am studying in the United States. Yet, amid my joy, I wonder: have I shown enough gratitude for my blessings? I believe none of us can ever thank God enough.

Let us be grateful for today and every day.
May all of you attain your dreams.

From not getting my visa before match deadline last year to travelling thousands of miles alone for the first time, from spending my Ramadan and Eid alone to crying in uncertainty and loneliness, from fearing to not get my desired rotations to managing my expenses myself, from praying to not let my parents down to settling in a foreign country, from receiving my USMLE results to facing midnight debit card payment issues before Match deadline, from crying while writing my personal statement to getting goosebumps while submitting my application, from having panic attacks while certifying my rank order list to crying in Sujood to get that one MATCHED email!!!
This is a journey of countless tears and prayers.

My ancestors would have never believed that one day their daughter would fight against all odds to earn what she truly believes in. I have had people giving me reassurances that it’s just an exam, not everyone is lucky enough to shape their future. Well I might not be the luckiest one but I knew I am the deserving one so I proved them wrong.
