You applied, now stay on top of your portals!

Your college portal is where schools will post important updates about your application. Don’t assume everything will come by email.

Check every day for missing materials, status updates, financial aid requests, messages from admissions, deadlines, and, YES, decisions!

Make it part of your daily routine.
Check your email. Check your portals. Stay on top of it.

Yup. Here we go. Another admissions update! Been saying it for years. Bye, Bye Test-Optional.

Vanderbilt will require SAT/ACT scores again for students applying for Fall 2029 admission.

The university says the decision follows a review of its test-optional policy, finding that standardized test scores add valuable context to its holistic admissions process.

The test-optional policy remains in effect for Fall 2027 and Fall 2028 applicants.

The annual Common App application system refresh is almost here.

Common App (First-Year): Goes offline at 5:00 PM ET on July 28
Transfer App: Goes offline at 5:00 PM ET on July 29

During the annual rollover, both platforms are updated for the new admissions cycle, including new college questions, updated deadlines, supplemental essay prompts, and other application requirements.

The 2026–27 application cycle opens on August 1.

If you're still working on your application, make sure to save your work as ONLY the Common Application Section rolls over. We still suggest to download any information you want to keep before the downtime in case the information does not save.

The success doesn't stop after college acceptance!

One of the greatest rewards of my work is helping students navigate opportunities throughout college, not just the college admissions process. For years, I've been telling students and families not to assume the SAT and ACT were gone for good.

Now, the UC system is considering reinstating testing requirements after faculty raised concerns about student preparedness, particularly in math. More than 1,000 UC faculty members recently urged the university to reconsider its test-free policy.

This isn't happening in isolation. Many of the nation's most selective universities, including Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell, and Penn have already brought testing back, with other Ivies & other public and private institutions like UT and the OSU following suit.

My advice remains the same: prepare for the SAT or ACT regardless of current requirements. Strong scores can expand opportunities, strengthen applications, and ensure you're ready as admissions policies continue to evolve.

Class of 2028 and beyond: don't get caught off guard. Start planning now.

The University of Miami has officially removed its supplemental essay from the application process.

Applicants will still apply through the Common App, but will no longer need to submit a UM-specific essay.

One less essay. One less step. But that means stats matter and YOU matter. How will you do that?

Whoa!!!!! The college landscape is changing bigtime and UF’s move to Early Decision reflects that and how competitive admissions have become.

“The University of Florida announced Thursday it will add Early Decision as an admission application option…”

“Early Decision will be implemented for the upcoming admissions cycle and will benefit aspiring, first-time Gators entering during Fall 2027. While applications will open on Aug. 1, the application deadline for Early Decision will be Oct. 15.”

The opening explains that UF is introducing a binding Early Decision option beginning with the Fall 2027 admissions cycle.

For students who know UF is their top choice, ED may offer clarity and peace of mind earlier in the process and to become a part of Gator Nation. But it also means students are making major decisions sooner than ever before.
