A few Saturdays ago I drove out to the country, put my beach chair in the Shenandoah River, and just sat there. And it was great. I saw this American rubyspot damselfly, northern watersnake, crawfish, and many fish and birds. Ideal summer day 🌈

A ruby-throated hummingbird seen through some early fall foliage 🍃🍂 I’ve been getting out to watch the fall migration, and this gal is just one of millions flying south for the winter.

I made several pit stops on my road trip to Ontario earlier this spring, and during one of them I was lucky enough to spot a little face in a dead tree over a marsh. After several minutes of glaring, this screech owl let its babies climb up to look out of the nest! I got to watch these cute lil fluffballs take the world in.

A couple baby barn swallows, having just fledged from a nest under the dock, goof around and wait for mom and dad to feed them 💙

Prettiest bird in the swamp! Prothonotary warblers stand out from the swampy, marshy, wetland forests that they frequent. This male calls to a mate between finding snacks in dead trees, having recently arrived back to North America for spring 🐤

Bat shots in broad daylight! Eastern red bats like this one may hunt during the day in early spring to fill up after hibernating over the winter. I didn’t know they could be so colorful, but the bright colors on this one helped me only a little as I flailed my camera around to keep up with it!
