Hardly any ✈️ yesterday 👌🙏
A lovely and healing day out in nature playing this 1st concert of the year at Roots&Remedies!

Thanks to @seamus.cater for his beautiful solo set, everyone who helped out and to the audience that came despite rain forecast ( In the end we had none!✨🙏 )
We do this to heal ourselves with nature and the music that matters to us. Onto the next editions, we get better and will do this again and again - with a little help from our friends.

One should have an office in the green every day 🙂

Unfortunately, Jeff Parker will no longer be able to perform with the quartet on Friday night due to personal circumstances requiring him to return to the US.

Luckily, we found a suitable replacement in Raphael Vanoli, turning the remaining trio back into a quartet.

Had a memorable album release concert at Bimhuis past Saturday 26 september 2026!
Thanks dear audience, friends and family for sharing this meaningful moment!

Thanks to the beloved Bimhuis crew ❤️, the company of this office plant on stage 🪴🌿 and the full moon 🌕 for keeping me awake 🙂

Now it’s time to recharge a bit 😴 then book more shows and plan a tour. I am not very good at that but will do my best to carry this music into the world. It’s time to play more again 🎶 ❤️

Superbe première critique de Ventschau:  Sans m’en rendre compte, je venais d’écouter six fois de suite Ventschau. Ce qui est généralement un assez bon indicateur : quelque chose s’était installé, sans bruit, entre les oreilles et le cerveau, comme une musique dont on ne comprend pas immédiatement les contours mais dont on accepte volontiers qu’elle prenne possession des lieux.
Raphael Vanoli navigue ici entre électronique, musique expérimentale et matière acoustique, avec cette volonté de brouiller les frontières entre les deux qui traverse son travail. Guitariste, compositeur, improvisateur, habitué aussi bien aux musiques contemporaines qu’au jazz ou au rock, il semble avoir décidé de ne choisir aucune porte d’entrée.
Il en résulte une musique tout aussi mystique que reposante, intrigante que profondément accueillante. Quelque chose d’étrangement ancien affleure parfois sous des sonorités qui paraissent pourtant venir du monde d’après. Comme si des vestiges médiévaux avaient été enfouis sous plusieurs couches de technologie avant de refaire surface, déformés mais encore reconnaissables. Les mélodies semblent souvent réduites à leur squelette, puis recouvertes de textures, de parasites et de matières électroniques. Une pop fantôme, débarrassée de ses ornements, qui aurait été abandonnée dans une cavité souterraine où l’écho serait devenu un compagnon de jeu. On écoute les sons revenir, se transformer, disparaître, puis ressurgir ailleurs.
Et puis arrive Old Sack of Coal, pièce magistrale qui donne presque envie de renvoyer Boards of Canada en studio pour reprendre quelques notes. Ce qui semblait impalpable devient soudain terriblement proche, presque tactile. Ventschau possède cette qualité assez rare de ne jamais réclamer notre attention tout en finissant par la capturer complètement. Une musique qui ne nous demande pas de comprendre, mais simplement d’entrer. Et une fois la porte franchie, visiblement, difficile de ressortir.

The album takes its name from a small village in northern Germany where Vanoli stayed on writing retreats between 2018 and 2023. The forest, and long stretches of being alone in it, shaped how the music moves. Ventschau is an ode to that love of the forest - poetic and personal, with more room than before for melody, harmony, and song-like shapes. Mantra-like figures recur; on several pieces Vanoli sings softly into the strings, so breath, voice, and resonance carry as a single sound.

At the core of the record are the "blowing" techniques Vanoli has been developing for years - sounds drawn from breath against the strings of a hyperamplified electric guitar, alongside the full range of artefacts and resonances such a guitar can be made to reveal, among them the voice itself, sung through the strings. This is the sound world of the instrument as he hears it, and it has kept opening since Bibrax. The spectrum of solo electric guitar widens further here as those techniques share the room with more conventional playing and a broader palette: a Fender Bass VI, a 12-string electric, and on one piece a steel-string acoustic.
