Seventeen American passengers from the hantavirus-stricken cruise ship MV Hondius have returned to the United States after the outbreak left at least three people dead and several others infected. Health officials confirmed that one American passenger tested positive for the Andes strain of hantavirus, while another developed mild symptoms during the evacuation process. The group was flown back from Spain’s Canary Islands, with most passengers taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center for quarantine and monitoring, while two symptomatic patients were transferred to Atlanta for treatment at Emory University Hospital.
