September highlights include welcoming Snow White as a foster from @rescuepurrfectinc and dinner with @lesnichols and @pfister.suzanne (despite the $52 parking ticket for being less than 10 minutes late for the parking meter). taken in Bucks County by @rarepov

Congratulations to @lipodystrophyunited (LU) and the lipodystrophy community for an extremely impactful Externally-Led Patient-Focused Drug Development meeting on Friday (followed by a symposium and prom). I hope the FDA, researchers and clinicians will take to heart what individuals living with lipodystrophy and their caregivers/care partners had to say about the debilitating hunger, pain and fatigue they experience daily and their willingness to accept risk in potential new treatments that may offer even a few hours of relief per week. It was an incredibly moving day because patients and their families were open about their experiences including what it feels like to regularly receive comments from strangers about their appearance. I am glad they have each other, their families and the compassionate, committed members of LU’s Scientific Advisory Board for support and guidance. taken in Embassy Suites Old Town Alexandria by @rarepov

No vacations this summer but plenty of reasons to be grateful: @smkerr12’s birthday (and 40+ years of friendship!), work trips to Baltimore and Amelia Island where I got to watch amazing patient ambassadors being filmed by pros (including @braggingrights81), a Little Free Library glow up, ice cream for dinner and sun on the deck with the kitties. taken in Bucks County by @rarepov

Thanks to @doubledaybooks for the newest page-turner by @chrisbohjalian. I got sunburned when I lost track of time reading on my deck. He did an impressive job on the female narrator reflecting on her experiences as a teenager into her early 20s. My mom is also a fan of his writing so it goes to her next. taken in Bucks County by @rarepov

Many moments of happiness in late May and June including flowers (before the white flies and aphids got to them), baby raccoons and the graduation of both of my godsons. Congratulations to @bgoedecker2008 and Hudson! by @rarepov

This is the leadership we need in PA. I am grateful to have a governor I can be proud of (especially when so many federal elected officials are an embarrassment). My favorite lines from brief remarks by @joshshapiropa: “Everyone is welcome here. Diversity is a strength… We lift up our neighbors with disabilities. We do not put them down.” taken in Bucks County by @rarepov

Another book club, another night of great food and company. Everyone who read How to Read A Book was moved by it and we all loved Frank. I appreciated the theme of found family. taken in Bucks County by @rarepov

Add both of these to your TBR STAT! They are both beautifully written with well-defined characters, and both address how family dynamics shape you.

I don’t set a goal for the number of books to read in a year but I challenged myself to read more books by people whose background is different than mine, telling stories of people who don’t look like me and who come from someplace other than the Philly suburbs. Fiction can help us understand differing perspectives and experiences, which both of these books did so well that their stories will stay with me long after I finished them. taken in Bucks County by @rarepov

Grateful for bookmail on another rainy day! I am particularly excited to read Kin by @tayari (as soon as I finish processing The Seven Daughters of Dupree by @nikesha_elise which I finished reading last night. Add that to your TBR if it isn’t already on it.). taken in Bucks County by @rarepov
