If you’re not honoring the spirits of the land before doing yard work, WYD? 🤨🙌🏾🌳

As a Traditional Afrikan Priest and Landscaper, I understand the importance of showing respect to the native spirits that govern the locality in which I dwell. 🙌🏾🌳

I always begin any landscaping or gardening work with a prayer and offering (sometimes tobacco) as a sign of respect. 🍂

Then…I get to work! 💪🏾🏡 Big up my loyal clients 🙏🏾 by @rasa.roots

🌳Baobab & Tamarind Fruit from Guinea-Bissau🇬🇼

🍈The baobab fruit is tart, and the best way I can describe the drink is a sweet cross between banana, mango, and sweetsop. by @rasa.roots

My paternal ancestors were taken from Guinea-Bissau 🇬🇼, and brought to the U.S. South in the early 1800s. On this Sunday, my father and I honor these Balanta N’yo Wûlé by making our own family recipe hot sauce to enjoy with our meal🍛.

During a visit to Southern Georgia a few years back, my grandfather told me of a family tradition that we still carry until this day, which is making our own hot sauce🌶🔥. My grandfather showed me a huge mason jar of hot peppers submerged in vinegar that’s been marinating for who knows how many years! (So long that the white vinegar had turned a deep ruddy red color). The batch we made today included Jamaican heirloom scotch bonnet peppers we grew at the homestead. It possesses a sweet astringent heat that is perfect with almost any protein🍗🍖.
