I made an experimental artist film about how I use sound to cope with life's challenges, connect to the environment, and create in community. All of the music in the film was created / sound designed using the everyday sounds in my documentary footage.

The movie is screening for free at the end of June in 5 locations in Minnesota. Reserve your seats at the link in comments and please invite your friends!
Happy PRIDE!!!

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Happy Career Achievement Award to my mentor and dear friend @markmanginisound !!!!! I am forever grateful for and humbled by this moment.

I grew up listening to Mark’s work, and in that way, he’s been a part of my life since I was a kid watching Aladdin in daycare. Mark has been an undeniably influential pillar in the sound world for decades, and he’s just getting started.

Mark having confidence in me has given me more than I can say, really, but perhaps the biggest effect of it is that I now have no choice but to trust that confidence in myself. That means a hell of a lot when you’re an underdog sound designer from Minneapolis sitting in a theater full of the best of the best sound artists in the world.

Mark, I hope one day I’m just like you, not because of the awards, but because of your curiosity, your generosity, and the depth with which you listen, connect, and tell stories through sound. Love you, man. Thanks for answering my never-ending questions.

Also thank you @annmangini for this video and for treating me like family!

MPSE Golden Reels Awards! Yesterday was one of the best days I’ve ever had.

Thanks to my incredible mentor @markmanginisound and the lovely @annmangini for taking me under their wing and introducing me to so many talented people in the sound industry. A lot of these people have inspired me, given me one-on-one advice, made videos/podcasts that taught me sound tricks I couldn’t find anywhere else, and worked on projects that I’ve religiously studied over the last few years. This sound community is inviting and brilliant, and congratulations to everyone who was nominated and who won last night!

Last screening of my movie is tomorrow! Link in bio for tix.

Thanks to @zeitgeistduluth , @bianchiapet_ , @megan.salmela, @myfilmnorth , @queermunitymn and so many others who helped me plan these screenings.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch “what I saw when I listened” yet, there is still one more screening tomorrow, Tuesday June 30th! And if you can’t make that one, then you’ll have to wait until I finish the final sound mix and apply to festivals!

If any of you know any festivals that a wholesome queer experimental art documentary might do well at, let me know!

I’ve been awarded the MN Arts Experiences grant and I’m making a movie about sound.

(Ignore face bandaids…hilarious e-scooter incident…we’re fine lol)

Here’s a snippet from a conversation I got to have last summer when trying to articulate my idea for the movie to some of my favorite people. Thanks to @mccarron000 for capturing this moment, and thanks to @naomi_vaughan and @elysavoshell for being a part of it.

If you’d like to be on my invite list for screenings in Minnesota, shoot me a dm with your name and email address! taken in Minneapolis, Minnesota by @rascalmiles

Been making a movie. Filmed in a smash room this week and destroyed a healthy amount of fragile things. 10 out of 10.

Thanks to @wreckitrageroommn for letting us film in your space! (If you’re in MN and you haven’t been yet, it’s a must).

Found home in a queer bar in Iceland (where I’ve been recording sounds for 2.5 weeks). Of all photos i could post, this one feels the most on point for how I feel when thinking about coming back to the states tomorrow.

This queen is Fake News (will tag once I figure out her ig handle), and she restored my faith in humanity on a day when it was p low. Thanks 🪩

Ditched the film fest to spend a day with foley legend John Roesch 🎬👣👀

When I say legend, I mean over 400 films…E.T., The Green Mile, Star Wars, The Matrix Trilogy, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Interstellar, Back to the Future…the list just goes and goes.
These pics/video show the moment when John had me playing the “boing box” used in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Beyond cool. Thanks for the great day @foleymann !!!
