A few more clips from our docu-narrative short film. As we moved through Iceland’s unfamiliar landscapes , weather, and culture we became less concerned with constructing a narrative and more interested in discovering one.

This project served as a training session in the practice of observing. And the revolving question, “how can we as outsiders authentically tell a story?”

Thank you to @filmcuts.io for sponsoring this endeavor.

Additionally thanks to @martamaria.ha @karvelschram for guiding us in your homeland. Without the two of you we would be lost on this adventure <3

Röst (2026) - 16mm journey through Iceland

since the day i met @simon_redstone , he had been talking about wanting to shoot something in Iceland. early this spring, I got a text asking how my schedule was looking, and less than two months later, we landed in iceland with our camera gear, lots of film, and no shot list or story planned.

a special thank you to @filmcuts.io for generously sponsoring this video.

Through an observational journey of its people and landscape, this film considers how a place shapes those who inhabit it.

Cinematographer, @charlieflatten and I spent ten days traveling through remote regions of Iceland, living out of a van with our camera gear and MRE camping meals. We arrived with no shot list and no fixed plan, allowing the film to take shape through observation, unpredictability, and adaptation.

As we moved through unfamiliar landscapes, weather, and culture, we became less concerned with constructing a narrative and more interested in discovering one. The conditions dictated where we went, who we encountered, and what we were able to capture.

Röst became an exercise in endurance—staying present long enough to see what revealed itself.

A special thank you to @filmcuts.io for generously sponsoring this video. It is through their unraveling belief and trust, this project came to life.

Have you seen The 5th Element? Dune: Part 1? What about Mad Max Fury Road, or Gremlins? For fifty years, Marks extraordinary work has resonated around the world, gracing the screens of the largest theaters, and filling millions of homes with colorful soundscapes. With an impressive portfolio of 162 films to his name, Mark Mangini, has been honored with TWO Oscars, an Emmy, a BAFTA, and many other accolades.

Last month, the Motion Picture Sound Editors Guild celebrated my mentor, Mark, by presenting him with the Career Achievement Award. During his heartfelt speech, he reflected on his early days in the industry and the many mentors who guided him along his journey. Then, towards the end of his speech, Mark did something remarkably unexpected and sneaky— he invited me to stand and be acknowledged in a theater filled with the most talented sound professionals in the world. Rather than solely focusing on his own achievements, Mark chose to share his moment with me and my fellow mentee-brother, Rascal. (In the video, If u listen closely, u can hear me screaming in the background ahaha) Although I share these words with you in private, I must say it on the ‘gram— Thank you Mark, Thank you for your guidance, Thank you for welcoming me into your colorful world, for inspiring me to push my limits, and for demonstrating that with determination and hard work, i can turn my dreams into a reality.

You’ve only scratched the surface Honcho!! Love you and Congratulations!!! @markmanginisound

On Sunday night, the Motion Picture Sound Editors Guild honored my husband, Mark Mangini, with the Career Achievement Award. Grateful and proud doesn’t even begin...

50 years, 162 films, 10 documentaries, & 1 porno -2 Oscars, Emmy,Bafta + more- my husband is the best in the world at what he does. But that’s not what makes him truly special.
What makes Mark extraordinary is how he pays it forward. I’ve watched him travel the world — in person & on Zoom, a true minister of sound, sharing his knowledge, mentoring young filmmakers, & elevating the next generation of artists.
On a night meant to celebrate him, he did exactly that.
His entire speech was devoted to thanking mentors he never had the chance to thank while they were alive — people who helped shaped his career but didn’t live to see his success. He put their photos on the screen, told their stories, & honored them.
Then he did something only Mark would do: he spent weeks combing through every single one of his films & created a crawl of 1,212 sound professionals — every person who had ever worked with him. (originally more than 2,000 he painstakingly removed the duplicates.) Then he asked anyone in the room who had ever worked with him, for him, or above him — to stand so he could thank them personally.
He was hesitant to accept this award as he didn’t want the spotlight on himself. Instead, he turned it toward his colleagues and his mentees. (@rascalmiles @mp.byte)
While his films are his history, his greatest legacy is his children — and having them there meant more than they will ever know. Thank you to some of our dearest who came out @dianewarren & @thewilliamstanforddavis for also presenting awards.
A profound thank you to Gavin O’Connor for presenting Mark with his Award- & his beautiful wife Brooke.
Gavin is not only a remarkable filmmaker, but a gifted storyteller. His tribute to Mark was deeply personal, beautifully written, & delivered with great heart. The audience sat spellbound as he spoke about Mark’s artistry, dedication, & the quiet brilliance behind a lifetime of unforgettable sound. Thank you G, Mark loves you more than you know!
Thank you, MPSE. Forever.
