A sneak peek of Raven Halfmoon’s first monumental 9” foot bronze, readying for her solo exhibition with us May 2024. A native artist, citizen of the Caddo Nation in Oklahoma, Halfmoon’s primary material is clay. Salon 94 will introduce varying mediums such as bronze and stone- with her trademark clay. This sculpture was made in residency UAP @uapcompany where they will soon cast, and work with Raven to patina in a painterly fashion her trademark iconography, symbols and tags.

“These guardians. These women. These warriors. These ancestors. I built them with love, prayers and lots of sweat. I have poured my essence and energy into them and I could not be more proud of how they have taken power and space.” - Raven Halfmoon

The exhibition follows Halfmoon's first solo museum exhibition “𝑹𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝑯𝒂𝒍𝒇𝒎𝒐𝒐𝒏: 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑴𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔” which is currently on view at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and will travel to the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in May 2024.

🌵 Arizona pt. 2 🌵

Feeling energized and beyond empowered working in Phoenix. The landscape, food, art and people here have been truly fantastic and I am indulging in all the ways. Grateful to those who have supported me in this residency, it cannot happen without your help. Life is short, look at art, go to the concert, get the tattoo, eat all foods and build something that inspires and brings joy in your life. From the song “the world is my buffet.” 💅🏼

EARTH. BRONZE. SUN. MOON.

Raven Halfmoon goes monumental. “The Guardians” (2024)—her first large-scale bronze—moves from studio to sculpture park, landing at Yorkshire Sculpture Park in “Hold to This Earth: Works by Contemporary Indigenous North American Artists from Tia Collection.”

Ancestral earthworks meet the moai of Rapa Nui. Each figure is split down the middle, dark patina and light: Neesh and Soku, sun and moon. The Caddo origin story is of a people rising out of the earth itself.

from the ground, for Raven Halfmoon

Recently got to visit Raven’s solo exhibition “Flags of Our Mothers” at Ballroom Marfa and was happily surprised to see a stack of copies of Raven’s monograph (published by Ross Kramer Gallery) in the Ballroom Marfa shop.

I had the honor of writing an essay about Raven’s work for this monograph back in 2020, and that writing eventually became the foundation for the curatorial, affective, and communal framework of “tierra,” the Clay Biennial currently on view at Craft Contemporary. Super proud of this essay, and incredibly grateful to Raven for the honor and trust in me to write about her work. taken in Ballroom Marfa by @ravenhalfmoon
