They say a birthday is just another trip around the sun, but this year feels more like a journey back to myself. When I look back at the last year, I don’t just see time passing, I see a map of healing.

I see the moments I chose to get closer to my spirit and the moments where my friends and family carried me without being asked. I’ve learned that being ‘lucky’ isn’t about what you have, but who you have. To the beautiful souls who walked beside me through the quiet shifts and the big leaps, you are the real destination.

As I blow out the candles this year, my only wish is to keep growing in this direction, closer to my truth and surrounded by this incredible love. They say the sound of the drum is the heartbeat of the Earth. I’m finally learning to sync my own heartbeat with the rhythm of the world around me.

As I embark on this new journey, I have to take a moment to give thanks for the incredible three years I have had with the Mastercard Foundation as a member of the Youth Advisory Board.

I’ve had the privilege of working alongside incredible and inspiring young people who I can now truly call family. I am deeply thankful for this experience, for giving me a safe space to be myself, helping me find confidence in my own voice, and teaching me to trust myself.

These experiences helped me grow tremendously, both personally and as a young Indigenous leader. They pushed me outside my comfort zone, opened my mind to new perspectives, and brought me closer to my cultural identity. Through the people I met, the stories we shared, and the knowledge we exchanged, I gained a deeper appreciation for who I am, where I come from, and the importance of staying connected to my roots.

Being part of this board also made me feel like we were creating real impact, that our voices mattered, our ideas could spark change, and together we could contribute to something bigger than ourselves. It showed me the importance of creating spaces for dialogue, connection, and sharing, where people feel safe to speak, listen, learn, grow, and simply be themselves.

My heart aches a little knowing this chapter is coming to an end, but as we say, when one door closes, another opens.

I am eternally grateful for the memories we shared: the laughs, late-night strolls, meetings, karaoke nights, conversations, and even the tears. Every one of you gave me fuel to keep going, dreaming, and believing in what is possible.

Thank you for walking alongside me during this chapter. I will carry these memories, lessons, and relationships wherever my journey takes me next.

These past three years taught me that while we may feel small on our own, together we are powerful. When we share our knowledge, lift each other up, and believe in one another, there is no limit to the change we can create.

Although our paths may take us in different directions, I know we will always remain connected by something greater than ourselves.
