A 65-minute song cycle by composer Raymond J. Lustig and librettist Matthew Doherty, produced by the composer and Maximilien Hein, and released on Sono Luminus, SEMMELWEIS is inspired by a pivotal moment in medical history, and the tragic figure who was its visionary.

Driven primarily by female chorus, featuring soprano Charlotte Mundy, as well as song-form numbers sung by Lustig, the album also includes The Rhythm Method string quartet. Conceived for a studio-driven sound palette, and crafted in immersive audio alongside Grammy-winning engineer Daniel Shores, SEMMELWEIS is an evocation of the doctor’s inner psyche at his life’s end—part fever dream, part requiem, part lullaby.

“…haunted…sublimely eclectic…a gorgeous, thoroughly original creation with the gravity of Dido’s Lament…presented in luminous, finely detailed sound.” (Gramophone)

“…a formally elegant and deeply touching piece of art, and the studio engineers deserve particular credit. (AllMusic, Editor’s Choice, 5 Stars) by @raylustig

MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere of Raymond J. Lustig’s “Corrientes 2500” (Respirano). “It imagines the loot-cluttered space, with a loop-based beat, a stash of stolen instruments: ukulele, accordion, surf guitar, synths.” Check it out:

Raymond J. Lustig’s “That’s The Moment” introduces a striking alternative-pop vision that feels adventurous without sacrificing accessibility. As the opening single from his forthcoming album Welcome, the track blends electronic textures with psychedelic pop and an unmistakable indie-rock sensibility. Its hook-led structure gives the song an immediate appeal, while the layered production reveals greater detail with each listen. Rather than settling into a predictable genre, Lustig creates a fluid musical language that feels restless, colourful, and intriguingly difficult to categorize. #Click on the link in our bio. by @raylustig

The album, ‘SEMMELWEIS’ got a lovely review in All Music. Here’s an excerpt:

.”..Lustig’s music is approachable for many segments of listeners. It is tonal and minimalist, directly beautiful and consistently consonant. The composer plays the keyboard parts and sings the male vocal parts. The vocal writing for him and soprano Charlotte Mundy mainly sits in a natural, pop-inflected register that is unforced and intimate. It is the extensive studio engineering and sound design process that elevates the material into the realm of art...”

Thank you Jane Harrison and AllMusic for the stellar review of Semmelweis!

"It is a formally elegant and deeply touching piece of art, and the studio engineers deserve particular credit for the outcome along with the brilliant Mundy, Lustig, and the players of The Rhythm Method." by @raylustig
