Bacon? Burnt. 🥓🔥
Shirt? Missing. 👕❌
Pride? Intact. 💪🏼✅

Bad decisions have built some of my favorite memories — and now, they’re building something new.

Welcome to Bad Decisions Kitchen: part maritime charm, part amateur chaos, and all heart.

I’m not a trained chef — just a guy who grew up by the sea, learned to trust his gut, and developed a taste for bold food, strong drinks, and better stories.

Every week: new recipes, more kitchen chaos, and maybe a little trouble.

Follow along if you think good food and bad ideas make the best kind of nights.

And tell me — what should I cook up?

@reneekillsplants came to town, and naturally, we made a weekend of it.

Beers, an unreal three-course dinner 🥩🍝🫐, walks with Gage (and approximately 400 throws of his ball), an unreasonable number of pastries, and maybe a few more beers.🍻

Oh, and we saw Zach Bryan. Four and a half hours on our feet to get that close, and I’d do it all over again.

Good food, good music, and even better company. Love ya, girl. Until the next one. 🫡 taken in Toronto, Ontario by @raystx

Photo dump after two weeks in New Brunswick.

Worked more than I planned! Saw fewer people than I hoped. Still had an incredible trip.

Time with Mom, Dad and my sister. River sunsets. Cousins night. Countless oysters. A brief return to my duties as Bosun.

I revisited places I hadn’t thought about in years, spent time on the water, and by the end of the trip my accent was strong enough that I could’ve been directing traffic at the Legion after meat bingo.

Good for the soul. Good to be home. by @raystx

Thirty-six.

When I was a kid growing up out East, I figured by now I’d have life pretty well sorted out. Turns out you just get better at realizing you don’t.

This year changed me in ways I didn’t expect.

I married Mike after fifteen years together. It wasn’t some big finish line. It was quieter than that. Standing beside the person who’s been there through every version of me and realizing we’d already built the life we’d spent years chasing.

Then came MasterChef.

Never in a million years did I think I’d end up cooking on national television. It pushed me well outside my comfort zone. It also taught me that once you put yourself out there, people will have opinions. Some will cheer for you, some won’t, and most of it has nothing to do with who you actually are.

That lesson carried into the rest of my year.

There was more anxiety than I’d like to admit. More therapy. Some friendships got stronger. Others faded. I spent a lot of time realizing how much of my happiness depended on whether other people chose me.

I’m still working on that.

These days I’m trying to spend more time with the people who show up, and less time chasing the ones who don’t.

The gym became more than just sweating it out. It became proof that small decisions, repeated over and over, eventually become someone you barely recognize, in the best way.

Going back home to New Brunswick reminded me of where all this started. No matter how long I live in Toronto, there’s something about home that keeps me grounded. It reminds me that who you are matters a lot more than what you’ve accomplished.

At thirty-six, I don’t have everything figured out. I still overthink. I still doubt myself sometimes. But I trust myself more than I did a year ago, and that’s a pretty good place to start.

Here’s to another year of good food, good people, a few cold beers, and continuing to become someone I’m proud to see looking back at me in the mirror. by @raystx

Season’s done, buds. No fairy tale, just a pile of tight games, a few inches the wrong way, and some unforgettable times. Just a few shots from Finals Night.

Met some unreal people this year. Some shots mint, some right greasy, but that’s what keeps ya coming back.

And yeah- raced a keg down the ice like a menace.

Would run it back in a heartbeat. 🍻 taken in Royal Canadian Curling Club by @raystx

She’s an Albertan smoke shop, and I’m an asshole from back home.

25 years of friendship and somehow we still make decisions like we’re 19. Flew out for a wholesome visit, and left with a mild identity crisis about being a “cat guy,” and a liver that needs a written apology.

There were beers. Then more beers. Then “just one more” beers.
Somewhere in between I got inked, kissed several cats against my will, and confirmed that chaos is actually our shared love language.

Wouldn’t change a single second of it. Thanks @reneekillsplants for hosting me.

Final bonspiel of the season and Western Cup didn’t disappoint!

Great curling, even better people, and absolutely zero restraint after hours. Got to run it back with my team- ‘Double Touch Me’ @jan.n.v87 , @newfiethunder and @thomashooper_7 - meet a ton of unreal curlers out West, and be just on the wrong side of the inch more times than I’d like to admit. 👈🏼👈🏼

Caught up with my old neighbour Patrick which was a full throwback moment, and got to spend time with my MasterChef Canada cast mate Bhu- tequila, laughs, and she even cooked for me.

Somewhere between the rocks, the rink, and the late nights… felt like one of those weekends you don’t overthink- Just show up and let it play out. Btw- Feel the Raynie on your skin 😉.
