𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀? (part II)

We all live in two worlds: backstage and frontstage.

𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲

Rehearsal and sound check (preparation).
Where we practice, find our rhythm, no crowd, no performance, just truth.

You give permission to a select backstage team. They might be fellow performers, personal or professional supporters, crew, lighting, sound, and security. Only those we allow get the 𝗔𝗔𝗔 passes (Access All Areas) to stand that close.

Some help. Some don’t.
Some care. Some don’t.
Do you ever notice the difference?

Each individual in our backstage space has an influence and impact on our path from preparation to eventual performance.

Then the supposed quiet space, the greenroom, before the lights come on.

And also the rider: those personal provisions we choose to have in our “greenroom.”

What do you choose?
Who helped you decide?
Is it good for you?
Does it optimally fuel you?
Does it ground you?
Is it purpose-driven?

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲

The lights hit. Energy shifts.
The plan becomes action.

Me becomes We.

Then comes the reception, maybe an encore, when truth meets connection.
After the applause the crowd fades. The quiet returns. That’s where reflection lives.

Did I perform from the heart or just for the crowd?

And who truly walks with me from rehearsal to stage, to reflection, in life?

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗗𝗝𝘀?

Many of us perform with at least two playlists:

The first is the 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗼-𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳: the music we play when no one’s listening.
It’s the rhythm of our thoughts, our beliefs, our quiet truth. That playlist speaks to who we really are when the lights are low and the crowd is gone.

The second playlist is the 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹-𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳: The one we play for the world around us.
Different rooms. Different audiences. Different expectations.
Sometimes the songs change with every setting. We adjust the beat, raise or lower the volume, trying to keep up with the shifting energy around us.

But here’s the thing: the best DJs don’t abandon their core sound.
They remix, they adapt, but their playlist comes from the same heart(beat).
The more we fragment our music, the harder it becomes to find our authentic rhythm.

Personal and Professional Purpose is about the relationship between your intrapersonal (within oneself) and interpersonal (with others) identities. It involves developing an authentic balance and integration of both aspects of your identity. This process requires understanding your unique abilities, passions, and how they align with the world around you.

Cultivating the ability to assess both sides of your identity is essential. Stephen R. Covey, in his best-selling book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (1989), declared that one should "Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood." While this principle clearly applies to your interpersonal identity, it should also be applied to the internal realm of your intrapersonal identity. Achieving equilibrium between both sides provides the essential ingredients for building a foundation of personal and professional purpose. In both your internal and external environments, you should develop active listening skills, empathy and compassion for yourself, others and the world.

Both intrapersonal and interpersonal identities play a pivotal role in guiding positive growth by influencing attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that shape who you are and how you relate to others. They encourage individuals to explore their values and motivations, deepening their understanding of their purpose. This self-awareness is fundamental to creating authentic, productive connections in both personal and professional environments. By aligning your internal identity with external actions, you build relationships founded on trust, empathy, and mutual respect.

Authentic vision derived from both sides of your identity is crucial. When you articulate and embody a vision that resonates with the values and aspirations of both yourself and others, it inspires belief, commitment, and a sense of shared purpose. It fosters a culture of collaboration, encouraging everyone to invest in mutual growth and find their personal and professional purpose.
