I’ve been busy in my studio…..sewing and reflecting on our relationship with water and with the workers who make our clothes. Our clothes protect us. Water is in dire need of protection. Workers deserve respect, safe working conditions and fair compensation. How is all of this connected? Come see “Blue Collar” at @silverwoodpark! Opens Oct.8th from 6-8 pm. taken in Silverwood Park by @rbbreen

Informed Source: Tending to Solidarity by Rachel Breen and Lauren Callis: “We understand solidarity as an acknowledgement that our freedom is bound to that of others. Fabric itself—an interwoven form—can be viewed as a symbol of this: sewing, embroidery, weaving and mending are practices of care and reciprocity. We are two artists and activists based in Minneapolis who are inspired to bring intention to our work with textiles for the good of the planet and to be in solidarity with people who make our clothing. Our work with textiles facilitates and supports the building of community networks and resilience.” @rbbreen + @curiositystudio_

Exceedingly proud to be included in this powerful issue “Textiles for the End of the World” - edited by @plantism for @surface_design

The issue is all about why I work with textiles - resistance, resilience, politics, care, empathy, climate change and love. So many great artists working with such rigor and insight.

Check out the essay @lacallis and I wrote about textiles, solidarity, mending and collaborating in our community!

Finished my extraordinary residency at @ucrossfoundation feeling grateful, replenished and ready.

Met the best people (you know who you are❤️) hiked in the best landscape, swam in the best stream and ate the best food. Really going to miss the view from my studio (second to last image) and bonus was meeting @edboklee a poet from my city whom I had never met and also a @mcknightfdn fellow!

Thank you @ucrossfoundation @mcknightfdn and @artistcommunitiesorg for supporting my work and for making this incredible experience possible! taken in Ucross Foundation by @rbbreen

Something new on the wall today, made from some old things. Repair = care and solidarity means we are bound to one another. Fight the power. #protestbanner #garmentsolidarity #textileinstallation #solidaritybanner #reusereducerecycle♻️ taken in 1330 Quincy Street Studios by @rbbreen

Today is the 115th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, which killed 146 garment workers in New York City in 1911. Shroud honors their memory and the lives of the 1,134 garment workers who died in the Rana Plaza Factory Collapse 13 years ago. Garment workers have been exploited across time and across geographic borders. All workers deserve safe places to work today. The work for justice for garment workers continues today. From “The Labor We Wear” installed at @artsmia in 2020!
