It’s ACTRA Toronto council election time - and we’re here to work.

We are committed to building power not just at the bargaining table, but in community with one another. Through open and constructive dialogue across every category and throughout our jurisdiction.

With 15,000 members, ACTRA Toronto has the potential to be a great source of power in the creative labour movement.

We chose ONWARDS because there is more to do. More for ACTRA Toronto to become. Now is a point in time; onwards is everything thereafter.

We came, we saw, we gathered!

On Sun, Nov 2nd, we held a GOTV party at @thevaultcreationlab (thank you team Vault!).

In 2023, the slogan we ran with was “Come Together”, and the spirit of that campaign has never left us. We were honoured to host conversations, lively debates, and an opportunity to build community. Thank you to all who joined us.

Ps - Have you voted yet?

VOTING IS OPEN.

From Oct 31 – Nov 11, we invite you to read the candidate statements, spend time with our platform, make your decisions, and cast your vote.

We’re also proud to endorse (with consent) four remarkable candidates who share our vision for a strong, transparent, and inclusive union — a vision sourced by members, for members. Incumbents @im2fancy_ & @paulconstable, and the formidable @thetamarapodemski & @totesom.

Honestly, this week has tested us.

But the VOTE is open and we are moving #Onwards.

We know that throughout labour history, employers have distracted workers from demanding change by turning us against each other. What we’re seeing now is that same dynamic in play.

Don’t take the bait.

The noise can feel loud and the goal is simple: keep us fighting so we forget what we’re fighting for.

ACCESS. OPPORTUNITY. ACTION.

The truth is, members are organizing for a more open, member-driven ACTRA — and that movement is growing, whether we’re elected or not.

There’s nothing glamorous about union work. But there is something wildly hopeful about it.

And that’s why we’re not giving up.

Plus, beyond the OG 8, this slate is stacked with a super group of candidates who are undeniably ready to take office.

Yesterday we sat with residents of the Performing Arts Lodge, some, having been ACTRA members for over 50 years. We laughed and debated and got to the heart of why we do this crazy f*cking job called “show buisness”. And right now, our union, our members — need us to focus on that.

Let’s get to work.

Why we go to @labornotes Troublemakers School —

Because this work isn’t just about a slate or an election - it’s about a movement to get back to basics.

This past weekend, at Troublemakers School Toronto, we sat with rank & file, elected leaders, ACTRA members, fellow ACTRA Toronto candidates, and organizers from unions across Ontario and the U.S.

We went to learn, to connect, and to remind ourselves why we fight. Because building a stronger union isn’t about titles or politics - it’s about power.

The kind of power that comes from organizing, showing up, and doing the work together to build a union that acts like a union. That is the only way we win anything worth having.

That’s what RCAP is about.

“Attending Troublemakers School and getting the opportunity to share my story at the plenary reminded me what true solidarity feels like - that we’re not alone and that our fight is part of a much bigger labour movement. I left re-energized to tackle the issues we face as Canadian performers.” - @elanad

We have been attending @labornotes workshops, conferences, and mentor sessions for over 3 years. We have deep gratitude for the connections we’ve made and the support they’ve shown us!

If the foundation is cracked, the house won’t stand. Let’s continue to reform, rebuild, reimagine and move ONWARDS.

Members want their union to be accessible, democratically sound, and transparent. They want it to be a stable source of work opportunities.

We need a strong voter turnout to endorse not only the full RCAP slate, but the shared vision we’re building together — the union YOU want to see.

A resounding YES to what we’ve built together, and an even louder YES to forging ahead, bent on building a powerful creative labour force.

The power belongs to the members, it’s our duty at the table to see that through.

Voting opens OCT 31st — Let’s ride!

Onwards: Meet the 20 candidates running on the RCAP slate for ACTRA Toronto Council. We bring experience, dedication and accountability. A coalition of proven incumbents and fresh perspectives—representing every category. Running a slate is a tried and tested method for making progress within a union. We aren’t running to gain power for a few but to build power for every member of ACTRA Toronto.

It’s called the labour “movement” for a reason. We must keep going.

Let’s work: More Access, More Opportunity and More Action.
