‼️50th post ‼️

For my 50th post, I thought it would be fun to share a little bit about me in a different way- through shirts that represent things that played a big role in my life growing up and made me who I am today. All of these things remain important to me now.

They’re even complete with some dog hair for an added touch of other things important in my life 🐶

Do any of these reflect you as well?

What shirts would be in your pile?

A little behind, but here’s my October TBR! Highly unlikely to get through all my physical reads because those take me way longer (doubled up Helloween with audio though, getting close to finishing up).

Any that you think I should prioritize?

What are you most looking forward to reading this month?

My Favorite Final Girl is out today! @mattforgit curated a collection of over 60 essays about our favorite final girls and why they’re awesome. I can’t wait to read through the whole thing–and learn a whole lot, because some of these names are brand new to me 😂

I went atypical and chose Clear Rivers. What?? Does she even count?? I hope I can convince you she does (and internet lists say I’m right 😤). Oh and @alilarter rocks.

To see all the contributors, check out @myfavoritefinalgirl page. Currently available on Amz.

Par for the Curse is the latest @frightfactorybooks by E. D. Black. I’m down for haunted mini golf, and this cover rocks, so this got moved quickly up the TBR upon release.

Word of warning: there is a LOT of mini golf. It is definitely not a side element. I can only imagine the amount of fun he had coming up with all the course names though. I wish I lived near a place like this!

There’s some creepy scenes with the Bogeyman and a cool Shadow World that I would have loved to see a bit more of, but that can be harder to do in these short books.

This month’s Goosebumps re-read: #24, Phantom of the Auditorium.

Not bad! I’d put this in the top half so far. I’m also a theater nerd so that bias is causing me to like this one. I do find it interesting that the back cover really seems to focus a bit more on Zeke though. And says a stage light crashes. I don’t remember that happening lol.

What did you think of this one?

Olive Oakes and the Haunted Carousel is a new lower MG mystery by @kalynnbayron. This is a fun one that continues her great work.

And in what is the sign of a great writer, I could tell from the voice in the first two sentences this was a lower MG story compared to her upper MG and YA stuff I’ve read. The narrator helped too 😀

It partly went where I expected it to because I’m an adult who has read plenty of MG, but even with that, it still held a surprise for me! by @rchillauthor

Listened to the audiobook of The Night Train by @loreleisavaryn and loved it.

For MG, this gets pretty dark. Death, curses, and some fairly gruesome imagery. Think a little bit of IT and Give Me Something Good to Eat.

I didn’t know this going in, but it also takes place late October and features Halloween. However, it’s pretty low on Halloweenie-ness as the vibes don’t really play into the plot. So it worked out as a pre-October read!

Now I’ll leave you with this all-time line that so beautifully encapsulates so much of what middle grade should be: “But I wondered what would happen if more grownups just trusted what kids had to say in the first place” 🤯 by @rchillauthor

All right people I know I’m not the only one out there like this. What are the things that you just can’t say like a normal human??

Yes, I had to cheat to get that last slide in there, but it’s my post so my rules. And I do teach Newton’s 3rd law, which is why it made it onto the list 😆 movies/shows below:

Last night I finished up reading Brain-Dead Girls by @thingsthatkeepmeupatnight and if you’re wanting another interesting read on AI overload, you’ll want to check this out.

The story is about a billionaire tech mogul who wants to take his virtual companion and put her into a real body, but he’s struggling to find the right body to work.

There’s some really interesting stuff in here about AI companionship and the human-AI connection. In Her, it felt futuristic and kinda sweet (partly because Joaquin Phoenix and ScarJo crushed their roles), but now the idea feels horrifying.

As with his other Daze of Dystopia novella about pet cloning, you should stick around to read his closing essay.

Tiffany D Jackson’s second middle grade novel Ghost in the Night just recently released.

This book has made me want to go to Savannah! This book is loaded up with ghost hunting and Gullah culture. Just because of personal preferences, I was hoping it would go a different direction, but I still really enjoyed it and there were still a few good creepy scenes. Just like Blood in the Water, this one has a beautiful cover and some beautiful sprayed edges, so I still might have to get an actual hardcopy. by @rchillauthor
