Everything truly worth having in life is worth fighting for and when you fight for something long enough, it becomes a part of you. Something special, something you can’t imagine living without.

My career as a professional athlete has been just that. It got me up in the morning , made me happy and pushed me beyond what I though was physically and mentally possible

Triathlon and multisport have given me more over the past 15 years than I could ever have imagined. I’ve experienced emotions across the entire spectrum. Moments of absolute euphoria and moments of deep disappointment, but I consider myself incredibly lucky to have felt it all.

As a 10 year old kid in South Africa, I drew the Olympic Rings at Kenridge Primary School. I had seen the Olympic Games and instantly knew that was where I wanted to be. Running, biking and spending my childhood outdoors, shaped who I was long before I knew it would become my life.

I started with duathlon and cycling and eventually someone said, “If you learn to swim, you could become one of the best triathletes in the world.” (Thank you, Elmar Knighting.) Swimming didn’t come naturally. Many people told me I should stick to duathlon or Xterra because I’d never be good enough in the water. That doubt fueled me. It took me about five years of hard work to turn my swim from a weakness into something competitive and although it was tough, it was one of the most rewarding journeys I’ve taken.

My passion during those years never stopped. I did everything I possibly could to improve and eventually I reached the top of the sport from 2012 to 2017/18.

There are so many people who helped me along the way, both in sport and in life. To my family, coaches, federations, sponsors, friends and every single person who believed in this kid from a small town, thank you. You helped me reach the top of the world in triathlon.

No more “coming soon”, it’s happening! 🏡

(Nederlandse tekst onderaan)

Earlier this year, we (@rd_murray & @rachelklamer) bought our dream farmhouse! Between training, traveling and racing (for example the Olympics) we’ve been busy, but now we finally have some time to share it with you.

Richard grew up on a farm in South Africa and always dreamed of coaching and creating a space for athletes from all over the world to train and thrive. Rachel has a passion for outdoor life, a love for old architecture and is dedicated to helping others people reach their goals. Together we are planning on bringing this farmhouse back to life and make our dreams become reality. We couldn’t be more excited!

This is a huge project and we want you to be a part of it! Would you visit us? What would you want to see & do here? Drop your thoughts in the comments below! 👇

Geen “coming soon” meer, het gaat gebeuren! 🏡

👇 by @rd_murray

Past months have been a big change in lifestyle .

A new beginning and the 2nd part of life has started for me .

Retirement has been a big adjustment to tell the truth , going from strict focus on training to another rhythm has been everything but easy . I’m learning by the day and finding the energy to do sport is coming back :-)

The winter was cold , but progress was made on the farm which is great ! Coaching / gathering shed is coming along .

A nice visit to south africa , some training for the @samlaqatar was really special and loved seeing the family .

The Samla 100 event in Qatar was something amazing to be a part of and as well as seeing @rachelklamer win!

Spring time has come and we continue working on the farm , our future and becoming part of a community .

I have realized that traveling so often and not being in one place takes some getting used to . But I’m really starting to see the other side of life , not just being an athlete :-)

Making new friends , connections and starting life for real in Netherlands .

My posting will be a bit lower as life is taking priority currently ;-)

Life is special , enjoy it 😁 taken in Beuningen, Overijssel, Netherlands by @rd_murray

2nd fastest Half marathon 👌 nice race at a controlled pace 3:30 . Last intervals were done at Zevenheuvelsloop in november so it did feel harder than expected ☺️

30k running for the day was a record for me since 2015 as well .

Look forward to heading south for some sun and family time over christmas 😊

𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹 𝗞𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝘇𝗲𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗿𝘂𝗸𝘄𝗲𝗸𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲̀𝗿𝗲 🧡
