Just a little gratitude post.
•
Visiting Capitol Reef recently has me feeling extra appreciative for the work I get to do. Getting to turn the places I love into artwork is already pretty wonderful, but knowing that my collaborations with park partners and conservation organizations can help give back to these places makes it that much more meaningful.
•
I started this business to share my love of wildlife and the outdoors. To make things with my hands, create pieces inspired by the natural world, and for people to use them in their daily lives, both indoors and outside. I came to a profoundly grateful moment when I realized over the years I’ve created a business that not only allows me to support myself but also the very places that inspire it.
•
I don’t think I’ll ever stop feeling lucky that this is what I get to do. And if you’ve been a part of this journey, thank you so incredibly much 🧡 taken in Utah by @rdkartwork

How have I never been to @capitolreefnps during there U-Pick season!?! If you’ve been around here this summer you’ve likely seen that I started creating work for Capitol Reef NP! As an Utah artist I try to drop off those orders in person which only means more trips out to this beautiful region! Truthfully I tend to avoid the parks during peak season, but it just so happened this recent trip perfectly lined up with their apple season (and naturally more pie)!!
•
Growing up on the east coast, that’s what I think of in the fall. U-pick orchards, corn mazes, apple cider, pumpkins. This was such a nostalgic treat to get to pick my own apples, but with the stunning desert backdrop. It’s such a wild juxtaposition really, that this seemingly harsh dry climate can support so much life. The orchards were so green with the sweet smell of fruit lingering in the air. Also can we talk about these insanely high ladders!?!! 😅
•
I got to do another Captiol Reef first this trip so stayed tuned for that shortly! I just love sharing these special places that continue to surprise me and inspire my work. Cheers and happy fall ya’ll!! taken in Capitol Reef National Park by @rdkartwork

Fat Bear Week is upon us!!!
•
The excitement around this event is palpable, but @fatbearweek is about so much more than which bear has packed on the most pounds. Don’t get me wrong—I LOVE the punny names, backstories, personalities, and, of course, the gloriously rotund bears. But I think we’re all cheering for the same thing, we just want these bears to thrive.
•
I first learned about Fat Bear Week several years ago and have been enthralled ever since. What started as a playful celebration of chunky bears has become such a brilliant way to connect people with the science and conservation behind them.
•
Those extra pounds aren’t just cute—they’re survival. Bears spend the fall in hyperphagia, consuming enormous amounts of food and building fat reserves for the winter. In Katmai, abundant salmon are a critical part of that equation. Healthy bears depend on healthy rivers, salmon runs, forests, and the entire web of life that connects them.
•
And then there’s Otis. ❤️
•
For so many people, Otis became one of the great ambassadors of Fat Bear Week. His enormous size, distinctive personality, and legendary fishing skills made him instantly recognizable. Watching him return year after year helped millions of people feel connected to a wild animal living in a remote Alaskan ecosystem. And that connection matters. When people care about an individual Bear, they become curious about the habitat that makes that bear’s life possible.
•
That’s the magic of Fat Bear Week, it invites us in with humor and friendly competition, then leaves us with a deeper appreciation for the biology, wild places, and conservation work that allow these animals to live their best, most gloriously rotund lives.
•
I’m beyond honored to have my work support Katmai Conservancy and Fat Bear Week with this commemorative portrait of Otis. 🐻❤️

It’s always exciting when your work finds a home in a new shop, and even better when you can actually visit!
•
Happy to share that you can now find my work at the @stargazerinnnevada in Baker, NV. Nestled under Wheeler peak just outside of Great Basin National Park, this shop is incredibly charming and focuses on local work that reflects the natural surroundings.
•
Be sure to stop in and say hi to Liz, the wonderful owner, grab some coffee, a book, and some local goods before heading into the park! taken in Baker, Nevada by @rdkartwork

Hi friends! I took a little step away for some r+r up in the mountains! Great Basin took my breath away both literally and figuratively. From camping up at the base of Wheeler peak at almost 10,000ft elevation, sleeping under the magnificent night sky in an international dark sky area, touring a labyrinth of limestone and marble in Lehman’s cave, to standing next to majestic Bristlecone Pines that predate the pyramids (seriously, some of these trees were 3,000+ years old!!!), it was such an incredible and restorative experience.
•
I’ve shared a lot of national park content over here recently and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to visit this truly special place. I barely scratched the surface in my few days (so I’ll be back for sure!) there but I feel really inspired to create work based off this unique landscape! taken in Great Basin National Park by @rdkartwork

It may not always be the prettiest method or setup but I’ve found artists tend to be pretty resourceful people! My little dryer rack only has 25 shelves so I have to get creative. It feels a bit like playing a game of twister, maneuvering in a tight space and precariously putting prints on whatever flat surface I can find, but it gets the job done. *Pro tip* you can place a lot of prints onto a flat large shipping box!! 😅😂 taken in Salt Lake City, Utah by @rdkartwork

National Park Week feels like the perfect time to reflect on how incredibly grateful I am for this art business I’ve built. 🏔️❤️
•
Getting to see my artwork make its way into places like Katmai, Capitol Reef, Grand Teton, Lassen Volcanic, and Big Bend is something I never could have imagined when I started RKartwork.
•
I’m especially glad I took a chance on myself and went to my first trade show earlier this year. I had no idea where it would lead, and it has opened doors to some truly dream clients.
•
This year has also been a little bittersweet. I wish more than anything that I could share all of this with my mom. She believed in my art from the very beginning, and instilled a love of mature from early on. There’s a part of me that wishes she could see where it’s taken me.
•
And then there’s this one… Yosemite. 🌲🥹
•
If you’ve been here since the beginning, thank you. Truly. Thank you for supporting my art, following along, sharing it, and cheering me on over the years ❤️

It still feels a little surreal — even as I’m sitting here folding up bandanas for some of our country’s most iconic landscapes. by @rdkartwork
