The 2009 Burton UnInc ๐Ÿ– (technically the 2008-2009 release) is a legendary, freestyle-focused snowboard that holds an iconic status in snowboard history. It marks the final official UnInc edition produced by Burton before the core rider-driven sub-division (led by pro riders JP Solberg, Romain de Marchi, DCP, and Gigi Ruฬˆf) was disbanded, later evolving into the independent rider-owned brand YES. Snowboards.

The 2009 model won the prestigious TransWorld Snowboarding Good Wood Award and is highly celebrated for its distinct visual aesthetic and technological innovations of that era.

Key Specifications & Technology

The Channel (ICS): This board was among the early wave of models featuring Burton's Infinite Channel System. It offered micro-adjustable stance options and maximum board feel, specifically optimized for Burton's EST bindings.

Glow-in-the-Dark Graphics: One of the most famous visual features of the 2009 line was that sections of both the topsheet and the base graphics glowed in the dark.

Crescent Tips & Elliptical Kicks: The unique crescent-shaped cutouts in the nose and tail reduced swing weight and added extra float in powder without compromising its true-twin freestyle performance.

Flex & Pop: Built with a Carbon I-Beam backbone and Dual Density Triax Response fiberglass, it delivered immense pop for jumps while maintaining a playful, pressable medium flex (around 4/10).

Size Lineup: The board was available in 153, 155, 157, 159, and 161 CM. Following UnInc tradition, each size featured slight graphical variations, often continuing their iconic animal themes (such as the UnInc pigs).

As the definitive closing chapter of Burton's most influential, rebellious sub-brand, the 2009 UnInc remains a highly prized collector's item for snowboard enthusiasts today.

Ps. still looking for the 155 to complete the set ๐Ÿง (willing to trade ๐Ÿ‚)

The 2005 Burton UnInc Romain de Marchi (156 cm)โ€”popularly known as the pink "Pulp68" editionโ€”is arguably a legendary, controversial, and highly sought-after snowboard in the history of the sport.

It perfectly encapsulated the raw, anti-establishment, punk-rock ethos of the early UnInc crew (Romain de Marchi, Gigi Ruฬˆf, DCP, and JP Solberg).

Why This Board is a Holy Grail for Collectors

The "Pigs & Cops" Graphics: Designed in close collaboration with the Swiss underground shop Pulp68. The base features a provocative cartoon depicting a farmer alongside pigs dressed in police uniforms. This anti-authoritarian imagery reportedly infuriated Burtonโ€™s corporate management. According to snowboard lore, Burton halted production early or recalled specific batches, creating massive artificial scarcity.

The Exclusive Pink Top Sheet: In the 2005 UnInc lineup, each pro rider was assigned a specific board length and colorway. The neon pink top sheet belonged exclusively to Romain de Marchi and was produced solely in his preferred pro-size of 156 cm.

The "Mirror" Myth: A notorious community rumor surrounds the board's shiny, reflective chrome detailing. Legend has it that Romain requested the mirror finish specifically so he could use it as a surface for "party powders" while checking his own reflection.

Technical Specifications & Riding Traits

This board was an absolute freestyle weapon, built for riders whoโ€”like Romainโ€”relied on brute power, high speeds, and massive airtime:

Shape: True Twin-Tip (completely symmetrical for switch riding).

Profile: Traditional Camber for maximum edge hold, aggressive pop, and stability.

Flex: Intensely stiff (noticeably stiffer than the 2004 debut version) to withstand heavy impacts and high-consequence landings.

The 2X Transition System: The 2005 model debuted Burton's experimental 2X system. It featured a metal track with only two screw inserts per binding. While it offered infinite stance adjustments and served as the direct evolutionary ancestor to today's Burton Channel, the early tracks were notorious for stripping or tearing out under extreme stress.

At ๐—”๐—ฏ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—™๐—ถ๐—น๐—บ๐˜€, we believe snowboarding is art-in-motion, an expression of life, and a means of experiencing the natural world. This is how and why our films look and feel the way they do.

A few years ago, we stumbled upon an image of ๐—ก๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ผ casually blasting a huge method over a massive rock in ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ต, ๐—ฆ๐˜„๐—ถ๐˜๐˜‡๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ. As we eyeballed the image, we thought to ourselves, maybe we should make some comfy stuff, so that people can really pause to enjoy these beautiful moments again. With that one idea, Capsule Collection 1.0 was born.

Five iconic photos. Four cozy silhouettes. Three colorways. Zero cynicism.

Drop in. Get together. Go outside.

Remember that cover?

Itโ€™s @rdmyes in Alaska shot by @scottsullivanphoto for issue 4.2 of the DVD magazines (2003) ๐Ÿ“€

This one was quite controversial but fundamental in what Method Mag was becoming and it strongly resonates with us over two decades later.
As you probably noticed, itโ€™s not a make and with Methodโ€™s concept of crossed content between print, web and video back then, there was no hiding behind that choice.
The point exactly!
Right when video media was taking over, the message was the following: no more fooling anyone anymore with print media. A hot topic as landed tricks for action shots has always been an unwritten and worshiped rule over the years.
The thing is, snowboarding is not just about landing tricks, itโ€™s about people, friends, trips, hills, streets, bails, mostly bails actually and sometimes jail-bails evenโ€ฆ All this and more builds our culture with more or less glamorous life stuff that inspires us and makes us who we are as a snowboard community.
Many riders, filmmakers, photographers and mag editors do their best to portray it sincerely and to this day we try to stay close to them.

What are your thoughts about that cover choice?
And for the dinosaurs out there, do you remember how you reacted to it back then!

Fun fact, Romain did not like the idea of putting this bail on the front of the mag and agreed to the concept of it under one condition: that he would have another Method cover if he came back to the spot and stomped the trick. Fair.

Swipe to check out the video shot, bits of Romainโ€™s epic part from @absinthefilms โ€˜Saturationโ€™ that year and the DVD mag bonus about his little Alaskan hick-upโ€ฆ
