💭 Thoughts 💭
It would appear I’m still stuck in my very toxic Sager relationship. Every other book of his, I love which keeps me coming back. The Unknown was another I loved. I should have known though, like does haunted very well!The suspense, witchy, paranormal vibes were just what I needed to get me into the spooky season mood. I love the whole seance, ouija board, afterlife scene and this was delivered so well. I never knew where this story was going, I was skeptical of all my theories, and was truly entertained by the ending. Definitely add this book to your October TBR!

We played with one as kids but never contacted any spirits… I don’t think 🤷🏻‍♀️

💭 Thoughts 💭
Well, that was… depressing. I read this book with @tecumsehthrillerbookclub for the month of September. We normally read thrillers but switched things up this month. I would argue that parts of this story was dark and mysterious enough to be considered a horror. With alternating POV we followed Lily as she is forced to take on the world behind the scenes of the traveling circus. I can only imagine the real life nightmares that side show acts went through in real life - the fiction version was bad enough. On the flip, we watch Julia inherit her childhood home where she uncovers dark secrets from her family’s past.

This book is full of struggle, resilience, secrets, toxic family, and so much more. I enjoyed Lily’s journey most. The life she was forced to live was tragic but she made the most of what she could.

I don’t recall any trigger warnings and I’m not one to share them either but I had to skip through the animal abuse. It was just too much for me.

🐘 Have you ever been to a circus?

I remember going as a child but I’d never go as an adult. I know a lot of changes have been made when it comes to the animals but the thought of what went on in the past is too much for me.

I do enjoy a Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum. So many interesting oddities.

💭 Thoughts 💭
I was really excited to dive into Whale Harbor. The reviews I have read spoke of the beauty in this book. I loved traveling to the small Irish town, the details really had me on the beach, I could see the whale. Across the pond, I was able to visit Montana and New York just as vividly. The settings seemed to be characters themselves.
Following the Joyce brothers, specifically Mac, the second eldest of 11, was such a beautiful glimpse into the family, brotherhood, and loyalty. They faced their problems together and celebrated their successes. I loved the way they always looked out for one another and no one was ever left behind. A true testament to brotherhood.
My favorite character was Mary but that’s all I’m going to say!

Sunday Shelfie 📚

I saw something similar to this on Pinterest and decided the staff lounge at work needed one asap. Per usual, my husband took my idea and built my vision. Thank you, husband!

💭 Thoughts 💭
Since I finished this book yesterday I thought today would be an appropriate time to share a few of my thoughts on Hollow Bones. Jodi Picoult does heavy, intricate stories best. Her newest novel is no different. Not only does she dive into the terror and emotion of 9/11, she puts us in the throes of postpartum mental health (such a timely topic), difficult life decisions, family struggles, and the complications of parenthood. I know this book is about to take over bookstagram so I don’t want to give too much away.

I saw something recently refer to millennials as the 9/11 generation - the last generation to remember life “before” and growing up being directly impacted by the economic, mental, and financial “after”.

Postpartum mental health has been in the news recently. While the reasons are tragic, there’s a much needed light shown on the issues woman face after birth. We need more awareness, more resources, and more research.

I am both a millennial and a mother. There were so many emotions and experiences in these pages that I could relate to and I appreciated that more than I expected to.

Thank you, Jodi, for the research and care you put into your writing. It doesn’t go unnoticed - we can feel it in your writing.

💭 Thoughts 💭
Vivien is a character worth reading about. She was born with a birthmark that covers most of her face causing so much judgement, harassment, and abuse. Still Vivien preserved. Her strength and determination outweighed the challenges she faced. On top of this great coming-of-age story the book is filled with so much more; a love story, murder, found family, friendship, ice skating. I continue to be a big fan of Suzanne and her writing!

The Wonder of One publishes next week (9/15). I highly recommend getting yourself a copy!

It’s Labor Day!
