✨DIRTY THIRTY✨

Today is my 30th birthday, so what a better time to reintroduce myself!

I REALLY enjoyed my 20s. And so i’m sad to say goodbye to them, but so grateful and excited for what’s to come ✨

And this year i’m also celebrating 5 YEARS on bookstagram. What a time! I’ve read so many books that have changed me in the best way and met a few of you along the way who’ve done the same. So thank you universe for this life and this space - i don’t know how it gets better than this!

Fun Facts For 30 Years 🥳
✨My favorite reading spot is in the bed with my kindle, its stand, and the clicker. Peak laziness and I love it.
✨Romance is easily my most read and loved genre, but I also love thrillers, memoirs, and lit fic
✨I hate too sad books. They put me in a weird headspace, but yet yall convince me to read them every time. Kristin Hannah, I’ll never forgive you for what The Great Alone put me through
✨My husband and I have been together for 9 years and married for 2
✨My bernedoodle Odin is the other love of my life and the first pet I’ve ever had
✨I still have friends I’ve known since middle school
✨I actually wasn’t born in the great state of Georgia but have been here since I was 5 years old
✨I have 4 tattoos and none of them are bookish
✨I can speak conversational spanish but read it better than I can speak it
✨I’m a HUGE F1 fan - Ferrari breaks my heart every year but we forgive and forget ❤️
✨My favorite food are authentic Mexican tacos - extra onions and cilantro !
✨Some of my favorite authors are Taylor Jenkins Reid, TJ Klune, Cat Sebastian, S A Cosby, Laurie Frankel, Charlotte McConaghy, Riley Hart, and so much more!
✨I love any and all reality tv. The trashier the better.
✨I cry very easily. At books, music, cute old people on the street, everything!
✨I love this life. It’s quiet and normal and everything I dreamed of.

Much love ❤️✨ by @readingthroughatlanta

✨Go To Recs✨

When people find out I have a bookstagram, their first question is usually something along the lines of “what do you recommend!?”

And then I randomly and haphazardly list books and hope one sticks 😅

Well here’s to having an official list handy! Here are my go to recommendations by genre. These are books I’ve read in the last year or so that left their mark!

I will keep this pinned to my profile for random followers, lurkers, and friends who just want a recommendation! Enjoy 🤗

**and yes I did have to narrow the romance section down A LOT 😅 so if you want a more extensive list or have favorite tropes, just let me know!**

🖤BLACK BOOKS🖤

The title says it all. This is by no means a full list but just to highlight, here are some “Black Books I’ll Love Forever”. They’ve made me think, cry, laugh, and always come away with the thought “how beautiful it is to be Black”. I’m constantly in awe of Black people. I am who I am because of Black people, and to amplify black voices through this platform is the least I owe this community that has given me so much.

Legendborn by Tracey Deonn
Born A Crime by Trevor Noah
Isaac’s Song by Daniel Black
All The Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby
Their Vicious Games by Joelle Wellington
Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson
The Fastest Way to Fall by Denise Williams
Finding Me by Viola Davis
The Neighbor Favor by Kristina Forest
Grown Women by Sarai Johnson
My Government Means To Kill Me by Rasheed Newson
Curvy Girl Summer by Danielle Allen

💫MM Romance Review 💫

Enchanted (Hopeless Blessed #4)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

☁️Out Today!

☁️I love this author’s work and this series is one of my favorites. I reread Nox and Micah’s book constantly, so I was thoroughly excited for Ethan and Rami’s and they didn’t disappoint.

☁️I had been wondering where Ethan had wandered off to and now we know! And oof poor thing. Their love story was well worth the wait and hard won. I appreciate the care around Ethan’s illness and relationship. He was so real and relatable in his responses to truly hard moments. I loveeee Rami. He is a sweetheart and exactly what Ethan deserved.

☁️Appreciate the cameos of some of our favorite characters as well as introductions to some new ones (vampire brothers, I need your stories asap 👀). Some things I wish happened sooner to speed up the pace in some parts, but overall execution was solid and I didn’t expect the big bad in this one.

☁️Highly recommend if you’re looking for a paranormal romance series that is both fun and spicy. Very excited for all that’s to come! Thank you @theauthor.agency for my gifted copy 💙

✨ALC REVIEW✨

Fallow
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨/5

Pub Date: Out Now!
Genre: Fiction - Literary

Thank you @macmillan.audio for my gifted ALC 💚

SYNOPSIS
🐮 Debt ridden call-center worker Natalie signs a lucrative contract to become a professional in-house surrogate for a powerful corporation, agreeing to bear seven babies in ten years so female executives can skip maternity leave.

OVERALL
🐮 Went into one relatively blind and boy was I in for a surprise!

🐮 As a Black woman in a red state (see black maternal mortality rate) and a corporate baddie who is very much still climbing the ladder, the idea of a corporate surrogate made more sense to me than I wanted to admit🫢…

🐮 While this book does a great job of having an MC who is naive, somewhat unlikable, and honest, it also provides intentional commentary on capitalism, human utility, and the ethical challenges we see in our society. Extremely thoughtful writing.

🐮 It’s also tough at times. How society treats and views women. How corporations see and view workers and their utility. Obviously, this is an extreme read, but it doesn’t feel too far off from where our society is.

🐮 And it’s a weird one. The first half is almost jarring in how different it is in than the second half. Lean into the weird but interesting take on the human experience and community.

🐮 Solid audiobook narration. A unique but intentional read that will definitely make you think!

READ FOR
🐮 Fans of “Margo’s Got Money Troubles”
🐮 Social Issues
🐮 Dystopian but is it!?

✨PUB DAY REVIEW✨

Hollow Bones
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨/5

Pub Date: OUT TODAY!
Genre: Fiction - Literary

❗️PLEASE CHECK T/Ws ❗️

SYNOPSIS
💙 Follow Molly Fitzgerald, an emergency preparedness director whose mother died on 9/11 when Molly was two months old. An unexpected shock shakes Molly’s new marriage to police polygraph expert Jesse, forcing them to confront hidden truths and face the unexpected.

OVERALL
💙 What a read! I had only ever read “Mad Honey” by this author, and it is one that I love and think about often. The twists and enduring love of a mother stuck with me, so I knew I had to pick this one up, and I’m so glad I did.

💙 Expertly executed. Given the sensitive subject matter, the author does a great job of balancing the real life aspects and breathing life into the fictional characters. Molly. Georgia. Jesse. Adam. Evie. They felt nuanced, real, and true. Their actions spoke volumes whether I agreed or not, but I enjoyed knowing them and learning from them whether it’s silly doomsday preparedness facts or how to keep going when it doesn’t feel possible.

💙 Enticing writing. Compelling twists and moral dilemmas. So many moments where I had to take a deep breath and question what I would do. It speaks volumes to the research, care, and honesty the author brought to this book.

💙 Why not a 5⭐️? The long chapters early on took me out of the experience. Although they were written in a way that was utterly engaging and thoughtful, it was a commitment. One of the reasons I think audio is the way to go on this one!

💙 Highly recommend for those looking for a tough read to sink their teeth into that asks many questions of us while delivering a thoughtful take on the often unspeakable

✨ARC REVIEW✨

The Pirate Queen
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Genre: Historical Fiction
Pub Date: Out Now!

Thank you @doubledaybooks for my gifted eARC and copies of the author’s backlist 💚

SYNOPSIS
🏴‍☠️ A sweeping historical adventure inspired by the life of Grace O’Malley, the legendary Irish folk heroine who risked everything to defend her people.

OVERALL
🏴‍☠️ What an adventure! I think folks will love or hate this one (she thicc and you know the kids can’t read chile 🤭), but after enjoying this author’s past works and highly anticipating this one, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

🏴‍☠️ Broken up into 3 timelines: Maiden, Mother, and Matriarch encompassing the different stages of Grace’s life - all of which I was totally invested in. Long chapters that feel like mini short stories within a larger book. With a writing style that is accessible and pulls you in once you get going. But somewhat easy to get lost in if you’re not in the right mood so buckle up and be patient!

🏴‍☠️ I found Grace to be a memorable main character (typical of this author!) and one that was easy to follow and root for. All of the side characters and their various actions and point of views also helped inform my opinion on Grace and fully brought to the life the story and character. She’s a bad*** completely worthy of a story.

🏴‍☠️ A history not often explored (at least from the perspective of an American), I was absolutely invested in the fight against the English, the Inter-Irish warring and the political intrigue over the course of Grace O’Malley’s life. Family. Honor. Name. Duty. Womanhood. So many themes thoroughly and fully examined in the lens of the time it takes place done exceptionally well.

🏴‍☠️ Equal parts Game of Thrones and Outlander with a dash of boss bitch energy, I can’t recommend this one enough if you’re looking for something new to read!

✨AUDIOBOOK REVIEW✨

The Heir Apparent
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨/5

Genre: Literary Fiction
Audiobook Length: 15 Hours

SYNOPSIS
👑Estranged from her family that is now rocked by devastating events, a British princess who must choose between ruling the country and her quiet life in Australia

OVERALL
👑 Changing timelines. Lots of characters. Royal deaths and scandals throughout. It’s chaos but also fun, intriguing, and a creative take on one of the oldest institutions.

👑 It starts pretty depressing, but it becomes more realized and thoughtful as it goes on. If not a bit over the top. Still emotional, but also driven by a headstrong and nuanced FMC who was easy to root for and follow alongside.

👑 Kept me on my toes as it was truly unpredictable. Casually dropped bombs throughout that had me locked in and invested in the messy lives of royals. Even if it
took a bit to get through it.

👑 Reminiscent of real life British monarch happenings without being too much of a fan fiction but also enough that makes you empathize with these fictional characters as well as their real life inspirations.

👑 Great book club pick. So much to discuss! What would you do if life as you know it completely changed?

Paper Ghosts
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨/5

Pub Date: TODAY 🥳🥳
Audiobook Length: 8 Hours

Thank you @macmillan.audio for my gifted ALC and @stmartinspress for my gifted copy 💙

SYNOPSIS
💙 When reclusive Willamena Wester reconnects with her estranged granddaughter Bailey, past choices from 1976 blend with the present to reveal a story of generational healing, magical realism, and family legacy.

OVERALL
💙 What a unique, cozy read! Fully realized characters, short chapters, and a unique premise that spans generations kept me intrigued from start to finish.

💙 I enjoyed every character thoroughly and for better or worse when it came to their actions, I was able to empathize with them and fully understand their perspective.

💙 Kind of sad. Kind of sweet. Appreciated how self sacrificing everyone was and how we do things for the people we love in a way we think protects them but sometimes does the opposite even with the best intentions. If anything this is a powerful lesson in “live and let live”.

💙 Enjoyable reading experience. Top notch narration. Couldn’t recommend the audiobook more.

💙 Highly recommend if you’re looking for a quick, fantastical read that is equal parts gut wrenching and heartfelt.

💞ROMANCE ROUND UP💞

A few fun romances I’ve stumbled upon lately that had me kicking my feet and falling in love again and again 💕

Fit For a King - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
out TODAY!
A romance between the king of a fictional country and his swoony new butler? Oh sign me up! This was so sweet, romantic, and cheesy in the best way. Noah and Nicholas fell so fast and literally every odd was against them (duh Nicholas is so grumpy and oops he’s already arranged to be married?!). But between a nosey well meaning twin prince and tension that jumped off the page, I could see this HEA coming a mile away and gosh what a fun ride! This writing duo are my faves and if they write it, I’m reading it 😜🙌🏾❤️

Craving Sin - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
out August 27th!
Cillian’s dad and Irish mafia boss Rian’s love story is just what the doctor ordered 😉 Just enough romance and dark mafia political intrigue to make this one not only hot but fun! Abbott and Rian are so sweet and getting to read about their journey with grief and life after loss was so important. It was everything for them both to feel like they belong to someone despite their pasts and boy was it hot 🥵 loved the cameos of past characters. SO excited for this series and the upcoming love stories. Riley Hart strikes again - this one will be beloved reread like her others!

Pounded by Produce - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Thank you Alex (@pumpkinreads) for my copy. Truly the most pleasant of surprises! It’s MMF, there are priests, and they turn into vegetables!? Yeah…you’ll just have to trust me on this one. Lean in to the fun and ridiculousness of it. Make reading fun again!

📖WHAT THIS WEEK📖

Happy Monday! Here’s to a new week, a fresh start, and a few fun reads along the way!

Here’s what I’m…

📖 READING: After last week’s fun “Paper Ghosts” (4.5⭐️- review to come) buddy read, I’m starting a buddy read for “The Pirate Queen” this week! It’s out September 8th and the latest from an author I’ve enjoyed in the past, so super excited to dive in!

📺 WATCHING : As always I am all in on reality tv right now, watching Married at First Sight and The Challenge. They’re both a mess and a half but I’m here for it!

🎧 LISTENING TO: I’ve got 2 days left on an audiobook libby loan for my book club’s current book, “The Heir Apparent”, so I’ll be binging this fascinating take on the British monarchy and a fictional princess who now must step up to a role she never expected to be hers. So far the narration is great!

Wishing you a happy and peaceful week ahead!

✨BOOK REVIEW✨

How To Write A Love Story
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨/5

Thank you @duttonbooks for my gifted copy 🩷

SYNOPSIS
✨ Ciara suffering from writer’s block and Sam the editor tasked to getting her back on track must finish her late father’s fantasy series finale while their own romance blossoms during a summer at an Irish estate

OVERALL
✨ This was cute! A really great beach read pick in that it’s low stakes but grabs you as soon as you pick it up!

✨ Solid characters. The romance is not a slow burn, but it is quiet and watching them fall for each other was sweet. They’re both funny and matter of fact and manage to keep it light without losing the more human parts of the book. And shockingly enough, there is spice in this cutesy book 🙌🏾

✨ Loved the small Ireland town aspect and the quirky cast of characters

✨ Appreciate the exploration of grief as well as the dark side of parasocial relationships within the bookish community

✨ Recommend if you are a fan of “The Wishing Game” or looking for a light romance with a fun bookish premise
