๐ŸŒฒALC review๐ŸŒฒ

โœ๐Ÿผ Heather by Caitlin Mullen
๐ŸŽง Multicast narration | 12 hr 8 min
๐Ÿ“– @celadonbooks | @macmillanaudio
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Publication date: 6/9/26 - out now!
โš ๏ธ Heavy CW/TW present. DM for details.

โœจ You know a book is good when it single-handedly ends your reading slump.

A huge thank you to @macmillan.audio #macaudio2026 and @librofm for the gifted ALC!

๐Ÿ’ญ QOTD: What was the last book that pulled you out of a reading slump?

BACKGROUND
When a small-town police chief reopens a decades-old cold case, she uncovers a mystery that spans generations of women, revealing how compassion and understanding can be just as important as evidence in uncovering a grizzly truth.

Told through multiple POVs and dual timelines, Heather is an expertly layered, propulsive mystery that steadily builds tension as long-buried secrets come to light. Everything culminates in a powerfully emotional ending.

IMPRESSIONS
This book was absolutely enthralling! I listened to the audio and could not stop listening!

I let the heady and gripping story unfold over the course of two days. My mind was spinning and my heart was breaking. Caitlin handled the unsettling topics and situations of the story with such deft prose and remarkable care.

I wanted to wrap each character in a giant hug, or, alternatively, kick some of them squarely in the d!ck.

At its core, this is a story about women. Their experiences, their pain, and the long road to healing. It gives space to voices that have too often been overlooked. I will be thinking about this one for a long time!

AUDIO
The character development was unmatched in this novel and the tender, passionate voices of narrators Bailey Carr, Christine Lakin, and Mia Wurgaft blew that development out of the water! Each of them has their own nuanced tone for the characters they embody and they bring the story to life and help ease the difficulty the characters experience.

IT GIVES
Karin Slaughter, All the Sinners Bleed, and The Return of Ellie Black, and feminine rage.

RECOMMENDATION
If you like character-driven, edge of your seat, multicast narration this one is definitely for you!

Sorry @readingthroughatlanta for leaving you in the dust! ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ‘€exposing myself with this post๐Ÿ”

I know this many ARCs might put some of yโ€™all out of your minds so ๐ŸšจWARNING!๐ŸšจMay be triggering๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I have never been great at keeping up with ARCs and this year has been a slowwww reading experience as Iโ€™m dealing with my own mental health & on a little life journey.

I thought it would be fun to expose myself and show you all the ARCโ€™s I am behind on between 2025 & 2026 (I have 3 from 2024 that are winter/christmas ARCโ€™s that I plan to read this holiday season ๐Ÿ˜‚) as well as my recent approvals. Iโ€™ll let you know that I have a Netgalley score of 75%! So despite having sooooo many books backlogged, Iโ€™ve reviewed a lot too and am still in good standing with most publishers!

One thing I tend to do when I get behind on ARCs is request the audiobooks from the library on Libby and listen to the story to help speed up the process and get the review in. Itโ€™s been such a game changer and takes off a lot of the stress of Netgalley reviews!

If youโ€™ve read any of these books in my backlog & liked them, tell me so I know where to start!

Sunny mornings, poolside reading, and a twisty thriller = elite combo โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ“–

26 in 26 from my own shelves pick โœ…

This one has been sitting on my stack forever (thank you @joslinreads for gifting it back in 2023 ๐Ÿ™ˆ) and I finally picked it up because I need to watch the series.

And WOW, this was a perfect one-day poolside binge.

The multiple POVs, the constant twists, the way it all unraveledโ€ฆit honestly read like a movie in my head ๐ŸŽฌ

Definitely one of those thrillers that keeps you guessing the whole time (which you know I love), perfect if youโ€™re in the mood for something fast-paced and bingeable.

Now Iโ€™m even more excited to press play ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ’ฌ Whatโ€™s an author you always pick up, even if theyโ€™re a little hit or miss for you?

I recently read and loved, โ€˜This Book Made Me Think of You,โ€™ and it got me wondering: what books make my friends think of me? So I asked! Swipe through to see what people said.

โ€˜As Long As The Lemon Trees Growโ€™ was the most popular answer by far which tells me Iโ€™m doing something right. Itโ€™s definitely the book I recommend the most, as I think it should be required reading for all humans.

Is there a book that makes you think of me? Or, which books make you think of your friends? Tag them in your answer!

โค๏ธ FOLLOW FRIDAY: My Favorite Black Bookstagrammers โค๏ธ

Happy Black History Month, everyone! A lot of us frequently talk about reading more diversely, and I believe that most of us have the best intentions. The best way to follow through? Follow Black creators and read books they recommend - throughout the entire year! The Black Bookstagram community is constantly sharing so many amazing Black-authored books beyond the ones that you most frequently see in BHM roundups. Following and engaging with Black creators also tells the algorithm that you want to see more of them in your feed.

Above all, these creators are making incredible content and deserve to be appreciated, so go ahead and check out their accounts! Some are my friends on here, and Iโ€™m so grateful. Iโ€™m a big fan of them all and highly recommend them.

In the order shown in the slides, today I am featuring these amazing Bookstagrammers:

โœจ Merisha @asread_bymerisha
โœจ Miranda @mirandadoddreads
โœจ Courtney @courtsnextchapter
โœจ Charity @ibpbookclub_
โœจ Jordan @inthebookishhour
โœจ Dana @bookish_dana
โœจ Coley (Crystal) @coleys.table.reads
โœจ Noelle @noelleslib
โœจ Christina @readingthroughatlanta
โœจ Jordyn @biblio.jordyneats

Quick PSA, mostly for other white people like me: In engaging with these creators, please donโ€™t make demands of them. Donโ€™t expect a follow back in return. Donโ€™t ask for personalized lists of book recommendations. Basically, donโ€™t expect them do extra work or labor for your benefit. Engage respectfully with their content, amplify and support them, but donโ€™t make it about you! Iโ€™m always trying to follow this advice myself and I welcome being called in whenever needed.

Iโ€™ll also share a few of my favorite Black-owned indie bookshops in my stories today. If youโ€™d like to know some of my favorite Black-authored books, please just ask!

โ“Letโ€™s keep it going in the comments. Who are your favorite Black Bookstagrammers? And/or, do you have any favorite Black-owned bookstores or books by Black authors?

Itโ€™s more important than ever, that we amplify underrepresented voices, especially in spaces like the book community that are deemed apolitical and predominantly white.

With February being Black History Month, I wanted to specifically highlight black bookstagrammers you need to follow, who all make this community a better place. Go show them some love, and drop suggestions for more awesome folx! ๐Ÿซถ
