Didn't read as much as I wanted to in September because I was a busy bee. But I loved everything I read! And that is a huge win.

I had so much fun buddy reading Illusions of Fire with @bookish.millennial. And talking about Foreigners with @hyperfixatedreader.

I think my favorite book of the month was hands down The Tarot Trials by Katee Robert. In my opinion it's the best thing they've written (that I've read!). I adore a tarot based magic system. And the characters were so easy to love (and hate!). I'm so excited to hear everyone's thoughts on it when it releases on the 20th.

Everything I read this month! Round of applause for them mostly being netgalley ARCs 😎.

• Anger Is Only A Shadow by Elizabeth Acevedo
• The Tarot Trials by Katee Robert
• Garlic & the Vampire by Bree Paulsen
• Illusions of Fire by Nisha Sharma
• Books , Iced Coffee & a Side of Dragons by Amanda Lovelace
• Foreigners by E.L. Shen

August Wrap Up!

I decided to include not only what I read this month, but also the movies I watched too. I've been having so much fun having movie nights at home with my partner.

Also there's no selfies in this post because I am currently recovering from being sick and have been for the last week of August. Thankfully, I can somewhat breathe again lol. But I kind of feel like the human representation of Robert Pattinson saying "Am I ugly". 😅

Anyway, I hope you had a wonderful August! And if not, may September be better. 💕

Image ID: A collage of photos. Four in a square and one rectangular in the center. From left to right, there is a dock on a river, Spanish moss on oak trees, my partner's hand holding a snail shell next to some brush, and a view of the river. In the center are jasmine blossoms and the word August in white and orange cursive.

Here's what I read in August!

● Flirting With Disaster by Naina Kumar
● Bridget & Gabe Are Not Okay by Lex Croucher
● Ghost Squad by Claribel A. Ortega
● We Have Always Been Here by Samra Habib
● Every Step She Takes by Alison Cochrun
● I Think They Love You by Julian Winters
● I Punched an Alien and Now We're in Couple's Therapy by Kimberly Lemming
● Divergent by Veronica Roth
● Deadly Ever After by Brittany Johnson

Buddy reading / talking about books with @hyperfixatedreader this month was so much fun! Re-reading Divergent as an adult was definitely an experience. So angsty and unserious, but also intense? Should I actually finish the series? Let me know if it's worth it y'all!

I think my favorite books this month came from Kimberly Lemming and Lex Croucher. I just love their worlds and characters SO much. But Brittany Johnson also blew me away! I can't wait for more books by her.

I unfortunately didn't love Alison Cochrun's book at all. Which was a bummer since it was highly anticipated for me. But sometimes books aren't for you, even if one of your favorite authors wrote them!

Overall, I enjoyed the majority of the books I read in August. Now, I just have to get through my ARCs for September and October. 😅

I've been having so much fun seeing the books everyone chooses, especially the books you couldn't pay me to pick up category 😂

So here's my #BooksYouCouldntPayMeTo list!

🏷: #Booksta #Bookish #Selfie #BookRecs

Image ID: A pink, red, blue, green, and cream vertical striped background with a round frame in the center. In the frame, I am smiling and joking up a peace sign while wearing a black and white vertical striped dress and clear glasses. Below the photo frame is text which reads "Books you couldn't pay me to".

Books you couldn't pay me to re-read. Now, I understand some of these are all-time favs of my mutuals, but they just didn't do it for me. That or my opinion of the author has wildly changed since reading their book and I refuse to support them any longer.

These books are:
● Verity by Colleen Hoover
● The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
● Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
● Done & Dusted by Lyla Sage
● Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin

I could MAYBE be convinced to read something else by Lyla Sage and Emily Austin. The other authors are on my personal DNR list.

Image ID: The same background featuring 5 book covers. The books included are Verity by Colleen Hoover, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, Done & Dusted by Lyla Sage, and Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin.

Books you couldn't pay me to pick up. These reads are either not my vibe, and I know I'd have a bad time or I just really dislike the author (personal DNR list lol).

These books are:
● Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
● From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout
● Haunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton
● Den of Vipers K.A. Knight
● The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

I pinky promise there are far better fantasy books by authors who aren't problematic by the way. Dark romance girlies I respect you! Your books just aren't for me. 💕

July was a pretty great month. Lots of quality time with family. And lots of great books! This month I read:

♡ Roll for Love by M.K. England
♡ A Vow in Vengeance by Jaclyn Rodriguez
♡ The Feywild Job by C.L. Polk
♡ Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry
♡ Kiss Me, Maybe by Gabriella Gamez
♡ Home Body by Rupi Kaur
♡ The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich by Deya Muniz
♡ Such Great Heights by Rajani LaRocca

The best book of the month for me was Such Great Heights which releases August 11th! It follows Siya who joins her high school's mock trial team to honor her lawyer mother's memory. The details of the mock trial are hitting close to home. The case eerily similar to her own mother's passing. And Siya begins to wonder if her death was truly an accident or something more. I highly recommend y'all check it out when you can!

I was a bit disappointed by The Feywild Job and Great Big Beautiful Life. In Feywild I just couldn't connect to the main characters, and the story was confusing and a bit all over the place. In GBBL I really didn't care about the life of the woman they were interviewing. I usually love reading about rich people problems, but I think I just missed the focus on romance and regular everyday people like in Emily's other books.

Overall, I had a great reading month! I have many ARCs to get through, so that's where I'll be if you need me. What was your favorite read of July?

Went to an art market at @southern_fresh_farms yesterday and got a few goodies!

Blind date with a book from : @booksybanter
Butterfly art print from : @susellie.arts
Gator plush from : @thisorthatbyajackie

I couldn't find the artist for the "You're never alone, there's always bugs" print, but I absolutely love it.

What I read in June 🏳️‍🌈

♡ The Last Best Quest Ever by F.T. Lukens
♡ Kiki's Delivery Service by Eika Kadono
♡ Vera Wong's Guide to Snooping (On a Dead Man) by Jesse Q Sutanto
♡ The Missed Connection by Tia Williams
♡ A Caribbean Heiress in Paris by Adriana Herrera
♡ Next Time Will Be Our Rurn by Jesse Q Sutanto
♡ Hold Me Like a Grudge by Celine Ong

While I had fun with all of my books, I think my two standouts were Next Time Will Be Our Turn and Hold Me Like a Grudge. Both of these books broke my heart and lovingly put them back together. I finished both of these yesterday, which was a wonderful way to end the last day of Pride.

Other June highlights :

♡ Celebrating my partner's birthday as well as our 7th anniversary.
♡ Spending the day out on the creek with family.
♡ Watching The Bird Cage with my partner ( his first time ).

Have you read any of these? Let me know!

Happy pride month everybody! Here's what I read in May:

• You Will Never Be Me by Jesse Q Sutanto
• The Teller of Small Fortunes by Julie Leong
• Beach Read by Emily Henry
• Snowflakes and First Dates by Alex Kramer
• The Summer of Bitter and Sweet by Jen Ferguson
• The Fake Divination Offense by Sara Raasch
• These Vengeful Gods by Gabe Cole Novoa
• Happy Place by Emily Henry
• Gossip Girl : The Manga Vol 1 by Cecily Von Ziegsear

There were so many great reads this month (not you Gossip Girl manga), but I think my favorite was probably You Will Never Be Me. Thrillers usually aren't my genre of choice, but I'll always choose Jesse Q Sutanto! I'm really glad I went into this not knowing much about it. I'm proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone. And I got a new favorite to recommend because of it!

Have you read any of these? Let me know!

In the month of April, I read 9 books.

• Audre and Bash Are Just Friends by Tia Williams
• Book Lovers by Emily Henry
• Loud : Accept Nothing Less than the Life You Deserve by Drew Afualo
• Canto Contigo by Jonny Garza Villa
• Best Hex Ever by Nadia El-Fassi
• Funny Story by Emily Henry
• Gwen and Art Are Not in Love by Lex Croucher
• Broken Halves of a Milky Sun by Aaiún Nin
• Strange Bedfellows by Ariel Slamet Ries

Of these 9, I think my top favorites were Canto Contigo and Gwen and Art Are Not in Love.

Canto Contigo made me cry from page one. I really resonated with Rafael's grief over losing his Abuelo. This book was full of so much healing and queer joy. It made my heart sing.

Gwen and Art Are Not in Love was so silly and fun. I was constantly laughing at the hijinks our lovely characters got up to. The badassery of a lady knight was VERY cool. I'm so excited this book is getting a sequel, I can't wait to read it.

In nonbookish news, Noah Kahan has been lovingly ruining my life with the release of The Great Divide. I have so many favorites it was hard to narrow it down. But after sitting with it for a few days, I think my favs are:

1. Dan
2. Porch Light
3. Doors
4. Orbiter
5. 23

I know Dan is probably a wild choice for a favorite. But it made me ache for my childhood best friend like nothing else. Honestly, I think a day with her could fix just about all my problems or at least make them quiet for a while.

Anyway, I hope April treated you well, and I hope May is even better.
