There are few things I love more than a book that looks like it crawled out of a beautifully haunted art gallery… 🖤

Today I’m unboxing my SIGNED copy of The Art of The Unknown by S. Elizabeth, and friends… this book is GORGEOUS.

Curated by S. Elizabeth, The Art of The Unknown is a stunning collection of gorgeously dark artwork that feels like the perfect intersection of eerie, beautiful, strange, and wonderfully unsettling. It’s the kind of book you can actually leave sitting on your coffee table because, let’s be honest, sometimes your home decor needs a little more darkness.

And the fact that this copy is signed?! My little bookish heart cannot cope.

If you’re into dark art, gothic aesthetics, beautifully strange things, or just want a coffee table book that makes people stop and ask, “Okay, WHAT is this?” definitely check it out.

I had an amazing time in Mexico City celebrating AMOR with good friends and good food! I laughed a lot, I cried (for sure), I got overstimulated in the streets, and I made some pretty sweet memories.

Congratulations to the happy couple @carolina.de.la.mora and Caleb! Thanks for sharing your special day with us, I got a love fix and it felt good! by @readingwryly

★★★★☆ 4/5

Dead Weight is the kind of novella that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. At only 160 pages, I flew through it in a day.

This is a bloody, cathartic story about friendship, feminine rage, revenge, and what happens when women choose to support one another. (Not necessarily in the exact way this book suggests... 😅)

What resonated with me most was Ásta’s emotional openness. When Unnur wonders, “How can she walk around so exposed, with an opening into her soul, and allow others to look in?” my answer was simple: because there is nothing wrong with being authentic.

Unfortunately, that kind of emotional honesty can also attract people looking to exploit it, and Dead Weight explores that reality through themes of domestic abuse and manipulation.

Come for the horror and gore. Stay for the friendship between two women who find each other when they need it most.

If you love revenge stories, feminine rage, morally questionable choices, and horror that’s more cathartic than terrifying, this one is worth picking up.

📚 Have you read Dead Weight yet?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 stars, I loved this! I’m going to have to welcome a new author into my infamous (and imaginary) “Hardcore Softies Club” among the likes of Nat Cassidy, Clay McLeod Chapman, Eric Larocca, and the Mac Daddy of them all, Stephen King. This was raw and effusive, and it hit me in all the soft spots. *pun intended*

If you watched The Substance and felt gut punched by the body horror and social commentary make this your next read.

Still catching up on some favorites over here.

#whenthewolfcomeshome by #natcassidy was a FIVE STAR read for me in 2025.

Honestly, the cover scared me off for a bit, despite this being one of my favorite authors and most anticipated releases of the year. But I am here to say…this story is not what you think. In MORE WAYS THAN ONE. Do not be deterred.

Nat Cassidy is sauntering into Stephen King territory with his newest novel, in the best way possible. Living up to his honorary position in my “Hardcore Softy” club, this story is both brutal and empathetic. It is a discussion about grief and trauma and finding home in the most unexpected of places.

Happy reading, friends! by @readingwryly

Another standout of the year was #girldinner by #olivieblakeauthor 📚🍽️ This is a thriller set in the world of academia, bursting with social commentary about women.

Following two main perspectives, a sophomore pledge to the most prestigious sorority on campus, and a sociology professor (and new mom) who is desperate to find some kind of balance in her career, her marriage, and her new motherhood.

This gave me everything I wanted in a thriller and also made me think about my place in the world. It asks us how far we would go to get what we want? And when we get it, is it even what we thought it was going to be? What makes a good mother? What makes a good woman? And more.

Loved it! And I can’t wait to read more from this author.

I need to talk about this book!

Y’all. I don’t get it. 2/5⭐️
I should preface by saying, many people whom I love and respect very much enjoyed this novel. I am not one of them. But I (kind of?) understand.

This is a hard one to review because I think this does exactly what the author set out to do with it. It paints a portrait of a psychopath in late 80s Manhattan. We follow Patrick Bateman down the rabbit hole of his dark, dark mind. And there awaits absolutely nothing that I want to read about.

This book makes this poor atheist’s heart want to reach out for the lord! Don’t get me wrong, I have no qualms with the brutality in here. It’s gross and gnarly and at times felt too much, but I get that… coming from this character.

Where it went wrong for me was everything in between the slaughters.

⬆️That is the line I picture going viral after I’m (INCORRECTLY) accused of murder in the future because I’m too trusting to guard my words.

Anyway, FOR THE RECORD, I Could NOT care less about what everyone who enters the room is wearing, from which designer it was made, or how rare or expensive it was. I don’t care where you get your fake tan from or which restaurant you have a reservation at, and I would have expected AT LEAST A WARNING of the number of times Donald Trump is mentioned in this novel!

Hello!! How has no one ever mentioned that Donald Trump is essentially a secondary character in this novel? I should have been warned. Shame on all of you!

Essentially my reading experience with this was sh** but I understand the merit it gets. It’s not my cup of tea. But it is relevant.

If you’re looking for a similar theme with a better reading experience I recommend #maevefly by @ceejthemoment

BOOK REVIEW: 4/5⭐️
#thegodofthewoods #lizmoore

This story is such an immersive experience, and very well crafted! It’s set at a Northeastern summer camp owned by the Van Laar family where two Van Laar siblings have gone missing 14 years apart.

This is historical, with the main part of the story set in 1975 and spanning back to the 1950s, but don’t let that scare you. It’s incredibly character focused and because of the rural setting, it’s difficult to separate it from current day.

We follow multiple timelines and multiple character POVs. The author did a great job of keeping my interest all the way through this 490 page chonker!

I would consider this more of a mystery than a thriller. I really loved delving into this world and trying to solve the disappearances of these two children. This is a great one to read for someone who wants to sink into a story and escape reality for a bit. by @readingwryly
