“It’s such an odd thing, the way you can know someone so perfectly through what they read.”

I came across this trend where we’re supposed to list 10 books that ‘define’ us. However, can anyone really be defined by just 10 or even 20 books? I truly believe that every book I have read has shaped me, however minutely, and every book I will read hereafter will continue to influence who I become.

Still, after much deliberation, I’ve shortlisted these 10. They are simply the ones that left a deeper imprint than the rest.

As for that opening quote, it is one I truly love and believe in. It is from one of these books - can you guess which one?

...Is waking up early in the morning but staying in bed a little longer, listening to the chirping of the birds and squirrels outside.

It's the love for a cup of chai at any time of the day, and never-ending thoughts of having various delicacies while getting conscious about gaining weight.

It's the love for dogs and wishing to adopt one while being super scared of being even close to them.

It's being wholeheartedly available, unbearably talkative, and all ears to those who strike the right chords until they don't.

It's setting high standards for the self which often leads to self-doubt if not met.

It's constantly overthinking and worrying about something or the other until every possibility has been thought of.

It's having a pretty good memory which is mostly a boon for remembering beautiful moments but often a bane for not letting go of the nightmares.

It's the constant struggle to find the right balance between buying new books and reading the ones waiting in the shelves for ages.

It's rearranging and cleaning the bookshelves as a part of s(h)elfcare while not caring much about the mess elsewhere in the room.

It's about being lucky to be loved and cared about, more than imagined. taken in Gurgaon, Haryana, India by @readwithani

Beartown by Fredrik Backman

This is a book that has been sitting on my bookshelf along with its sequels for quite a long time, and I can finally say that I have read it. I am not here to talk about the plot. Since it’s a popular book, it is likely that you already know about it. I just want to talk about how I felt while and after reading it. That said, please note there may be triggers for the readers of the book, as it involves a grave crime.

I started this book in January as my first read of the year, yet it took me about nine months to finish. In the process, I read quite a few other books, some great and some not so much, but I can definitely say that none came close to how this one made me feel. A book is generally considered good if it's fast-paced, meant to be read within a few days or even hours. Oh, I read some of those in the meantime as well. Beartown was definitely not one of those reads for me.

The story is not complicated, but that’s the magic of Fredrik Backman - he can offer food for thought even in simplicity. This was one of those rare books for me where every other sentence felt worth quoting.

The book started slow, developing every character (not just the main ones) in a way that made it feel like I have known them even outside of the fictional world. Moreover, the town (Beartown) itself felt like a living character, one that has emotions, takes actions, and bears the consequences.

I bought the whole trilogy even before reading the first book, and now I can safely say it was a great decision, because I need (yes it is a necessity for me now) to read the rest as soon as possible.

If you have read this far, you might be thinking how random or unstructured the caption is. I will be honest that I did not even make an effort to structure them as I just wanted to put forth my thoughts - at least as much as I could here.

A little magical spot in my room.✨

Can I get my Hogwarts letter now?🦉📨

I have been manifesting one for nearly twenty five years, ever since I experienced the Wizarding World on screen. Yes, I watched the first movie before reading the books and it made me crave for the books so much that led to my parents gifting me the first five, marking the start of my becoming a Potterhead. Now, with collectibles finding their place alongside the books every once in a while, the magic in the space keeps on growing.

Hoping for the collection to grow bigger and more magical. Afterall, the magic might be happening inside my head, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?🧙‍♂️🪄

Finally starting to read The Mysterious Bakery on Rue de Paris by Evie Woods.

This book was a gift from my wife right before a recent work trip which was originally planned for Paris, one of my dream destinations, but client demands shifted the venue to another country altogether. Nevertheless, I packed the book as a bit of manifestation, hoping I might still get to see the City of Light. And voilà, it worked and I actually got to visit, even if just for a day.

Interestingly, as per the blurb of the book, the protagonist also intends to go to Paris for a job but ends up in a completely different place. It is a coincidence that kind of fits my own experience, making me even more eager to get into this story.

PS: Although I did enjoy my brief stay in Paris, it felt incomplete. So I can't wait to return and experience the City of Love with my wifey someday.

For me, packing for a trip (leisure or work) always comprises at least a book and my Kindle.

Well, this will be the first time I’ll be traveling this far. While anyone would be excited (I am deeply grateful) for the opportunity, I am honestly very anxious. Maybe because it means I wouldn't be able to see my loved ones, especially my newborn, for a few weeks.

This book, The Mysterious Bakery on Rue de Paris by Evie Woods, was gifted by my wifey for a very specific trip - one that may or may not be possible anytime soon. But nevertheless, I am carrying it along, considering I am taking her essence with me.

If you have read this far, I know it would have felt random scribbles but this is actually a little snapshot of what is going on in my mind for the last few days.
