Yesterday was Agatha Christie day 🥹🫶🏼 i spent my morning in this restaurant a few steps from our hotel and started this new AC novel that I brought for the trip!!

Suchhhh a great morning, i wish it could always feel like this. Starting this book felt extra special, especially since this is my 31st AC novel!!!!! AAAAAAAAA

My love for her books started in 2019 when I bought Dumb Witness (also my first Hercule Poirot). Took me a long time to read that one, but became so hooked that I immediately followed it with And Then There Were None. She not only got me into Hercule Poirot, but to thrillers in general!! I wouldn’t have picked up books by Steve Cavanagh or Riley Sager if it weren’t because of her. She is my why!!! taken in Old Quarter, Ha Noi, Viet Nam by @readwithelca

I only thought of keeping track and doing this halfway through the trip but I’ll definitely do this again cause it’s so fun!!!

Surprisingly, I actually read my book and on my kindle while we’re seated waiting for food or the train 😂 and even before going to bed

The Bright Years is my fave. My friend highly recommended it to me. Once I started it on the plane, I couldn’t put it down. She even told me “are you sure you wanna read this heartbreaking story when you should be enjoying?” LOL. It touched me in so many different ways, even made me cry a little as i reflected on how some parts of the story resonated with my own life.

Before our last day, I was also able to finish Midnight Message. I know it’s an unhinged book but I freaking loved it 😂 a love story circling around obsession and ice hockey. Saw this recommendation on booktok too by @readwithelca

Happy Sunday!!! Been wanting to share my short review of A Pocket Full of Rye 🌾

On an ordinary day, a wealthy man chokes on his tea and inside his pocket, the police finds a RYE!

Agatha Christie is known for incorporating nursery rhymes to her plots, which has not always been successful, but I thought it worked really nicely on this story. She played with the rhyme “Sing a Song of Sixpence” as the motive of the crimes committed, and of course, our sweet, little old lady, Ms Marple, figured it all out 👒

Here we are given a very simple and domestic setting. A flashy, country-house style mansion surrounded with yew trees owned by the dysfunctional and greedy Fortescue family. Somehow, this is always the perfect setting for Ms Marple to show up randomly and solve the crimes! 😆

I started this on the plane during my 9hr - 5hr flight home and finished it the day I arrived. From start to end, it kept me so intrigued, especially about the RYE! It was a delight to read through Inspector Neele’s investigation before Ms Marple showed up on the scene. I think the characters were so unlikeable, except a few that deserves better. The outcome was also quick and dramatic. I had a guess who the bad guy was but I doubted myself towards the end.

I love her a little more every time I finish her book. A Pocket Full of Rye really showcases how Ms Marple solves through quiet observation rather than taking charge (opposing to Hercule Poirot) and the best thing about it is she’s not even a detective! In this book, the Fortescue family and Inspector Neele dominated the pages since she came in halfway through the story.

As my fifth Ms Marple novel, A Pocket Full of Rye is definitely on my favorite list so far, with Murder at the Vicarage being the other favorite. Wouldn’t recommend this as a starting point to AC or Ms Marple but it’s a perfect weekend getaway book cause it’s short! by @readwithelca

Book review + photos of the day I finished it ⛵️

I finished Murder in Mesopotamia when we spent 4 days in Chester and obviously enjoyed it, but this isn’t one of my faves.

I’ve always loved her catchy “exotic” travel titles, such as 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘪𝘭𝘦, 𝘈 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘔𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘺, and 𝘔𝘶𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴. Most fans agreed that her early works were the best, around late 1920s to 1930s, and I was really excited to dive into this.

I struggled a little to get into it since it was written on the point of view of one of the main characters, which isn’t Hercule Poirot himself, like a diary during her time at an archaeology dig in Iraq. I was surprised to feel that the alluring setting promised was lacking description. Most of the books I’ve read from her have successfully brought the setting to life for me.

However, I began to feel more connected to it when Hercule Poirot entered the scene halfway through the book! It always picks up when he comes in as the story intensifies.

The denouement to me was not as exciting as her other novels, but I’m always interested in Poirot’s “revelation”, where he gathers every suspect and reveals the truth. I’m guessing plenty of people who’ve read this actually figured out who the killer was.

Still, it was a perfect book to bring on my trip! Honestly didn’t think I’d finish it here.

22nd out of 33 Hercule Poirot novels 🕵🏻‍♂️

Guys my first Waterstones haul!!!! Made sure i’ll have space for these 😆😝

I’m actually most excited about the jigsaw puzzles cause i’ve been wanting these for a long time. Also never heard of Bad Boy Era but it had sprayed edges with a reasonable price so it went to the bag 😭

What would you be reading first from this haul? 🥹

“As for the choice of meat, well, I’ll leave that up to you.”

I picked up The Dead Husband Cookbook because of its title and book cover, expecting it to be an ordinary thriller, but I was impressed by its balance of dark humor, grief, and unhinged women 😂

This thriller follows Thea Woods, who is hired by Maria Capello to edit her long-awaited memoir. Maria is a celebrity chef rumored to have murdered her husband thirty years ago after his sudden disappearance. Whispers even claimed she was using her husband’s remains in her cooking. As the two work together, Thea uncovers family secrets and unsettling recipes.

The mystery plot wasn’t something new, yet I still found the story insane and weird in the best way. Overall, such a solid thriller! It was very atmospheric too. It kinda felt like I was reading Verity with the manuscripts given alongside the main story. I found myself increasingly scared for Thea and coming up with different theories, but the resolution was fun and not too exaggerated. I was surprised!

I loved Maria and her recipes with their funny names LOL. I don’t wanna spoil anything, but if you’ve watched the Desperate Housewives, Maria TOTALLY reminded me of Bree 😂

I really enjoyed how everything worked out in this book. Do check the trigger warnings if you’re thinking of reading this!!
