Things In Every Room by Helen Longstreth

In Longstreth’s memoir, she delves deep into the complexities of growing up in a home under the shadow of alcoholism. In a poignant recounting of her childhood, she explores the confusion of a child trying to make sense of what they see through the limited understanding they had at the time, while grappling with the contradiction of loving your father while hating what you see.

The author’s writing will hook you in with its beautiful yet quietly devastating passages. I remember starting this book in a coffee shop and reading the first few chapters, and having that strange feeling of recognition as I encountered experiences and emotions that, in some ways, felt familiar to me. There was something about the way Longstreth captures a child’s perspective that hit close to home.

Somehow, this reminded me of Francie Nolan from Betty Smith’s A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Francie Nolan was a bravehearted child who faced hardships far beyond what a child should have to carry, yet continued to find ways to understand, endure, and make a life out of what she was given. What stayed with me most was the way the memoir captures the complicated nature of childhood: how a child can love someone deeply while simultaneously being hurt by who that person is, and how those contradictions can coexist in the same home.

if you say your current music playlist is not influenced by off campus….(I’m suspicious & jealous of you 🤣) all I can think about is off campus! I’m a logangracie girly to my core but will forever be a garrettwelsy girly — I’m UNWELLSY to my core at how much I loved the adaptation. If I’m not re-watching it, I’m listening to the songs, or watching the edits, all watching all their press tour contents!! anyways curious to know everyone’s fav moments from off campus + your fav songs you discovered from the series! back in my body by maggie rogers, bed on fire by g flip & edge of the earth goes multi platinum in my ears! 🪩💖

QOTD : Have you read the Six Crimson Cranes duology? What are your thoughts?

A short review :

I absolutely loved reading the Six Crimson Cranes duology by Elizabeth Lim. The writing felt so poetic and immersive like it had this soft, lyrical quality that I really loved 💖

The story follows Princess Shiori who secretly has magic in a kingdom where magic is forbidden. Somehow, her stepmother discovers this and curses her and her brother. Her brothers are turned into cranes and if Shiori utters a single word, one of her brothers would die!
Her journey is filled with resilience, and quiet strength as she sets out to break the curse and save her family.

A lil spoiler alert, I really wanted Shiori to end up with Seryu (plz tell me I'm not the only one). Like the 2nd book's name is literally The Dragon's Promise! Hello!! I judged the title (it made me hopeful 😭)
BUT I cannot lie ! I still loved her story with Takkan 🥰. It was soft and comforting 🤧💕

Honestly, 16 years old me would've been completely OBSESSED with this duology. Even now, I loved and enjoyed every second of it 💓

Overall it's a very beautifully written, enchanting story that feels like a fairytale 💫🕊️

a new year, a new list and this calls for a fresh set of books to read in the year ahead 🍃

over the past few days, i’ve been scrolling through my goodreads and realized that some of the books i marked as want-to-read were added impulsively (mostly driven by popularity and hype) while others, sadly, are books with genres i think my younger self would have loved more than the person i am now. one by one, i removed them, until 60 turned into 40+, and it’s such an oddly bittersweet feeling 🥹

this 2026, i want to be more careful and deliberate with the books i choose. i want to read with intention: to learn, to explore new perspectives, voices, and ideas, and to sit with stories that challenge me rather than rush through them. of course, i know that this newly curated tbr list won’t always go as planned 100%. my 2025 reading journey proved this to me, as i found myself picking up titles that weren’t on my list and, thanks to my spontaneity and experimental curiosity, discovered books that turned into some of my top reads. hence, i’m still leaving room for surprise and joy in my reading life.

with a lowered goal from 50 books down to 40, I’m hoping to prioritize depth over quantity. i still do get fomo seeing everyone’s accomplished reading goals (god, how i wish i had moreeee time just to read), but i want to be more mindful and gentle with myself and refrain from putting unnecessary pressure.

🤭 speaking of lists, i’ve been thinking a lot about committing myself to a planner, so i tried out notion and got a productivity planner for my thesis. i also created a bucket list for 2026 just so i can feel intentional and excited about the year ahead. since i’m on my last semester already, i also made a list of things i want to do and try out to maximize these final months of college.

anyway, what do you think of my list? any thoughts, comments, or recommendations? 💛

Just a few of the most creative, insightful, and sweet bookstagrammers whose content I always look forward to! I wanted to shout out some great accounts as a little bit of a celebration post for me hitting 1k (which is still SO insane to me). I started this account in 2023, took a loooooong hiatus because my life was so crazy, but I got back into it again because I needed a creative outlet and a community to share my passions for books with. Moving to a new state alone to start a new job has been hard, but posting on this account has made adjusting to such a big change easier. It gives me something to look forward to and feel familiar with in a world of newness. Gaining followers is the last thing I'm concerned with, but it is truly so rewarding to know that so many people want to follow along with me.
