Some towns are known for their history. Bakewell is known for a famous mistake… 🥧

Centuries before the pudding, a medieval stone bridge brought traders across the river to the market. It’s still held in the same spot today, more than 800 years later. 🌉

Then, in the mid 1800s, the Rutland Arms kitchen is said to have served up something unexpected. A strawberry tart was ordered, but the cook poured the egg mixture over the jam instead of mixing it into the pastry. The result was so good it never left the menu 🤎

Today, you can still taste it in the town where it all began. At the Original Bakewell Pudding Shop @realbakewellpud
Just don’t call it a tart, the locals will notice 😉

💌 Have you been to Bakewell before? If not, let me know if I’ve inspired you to go!

📌 If you’re new here, I’ve been living in London for over 5 years, and I spend my days curating the most memorable escapes from the city, so you don’t have to.

Follow along @lifeonmyplate for your next escape. ✨

We had a lovely day yesterday at The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop! 🥂

It has been fantastic to welcome Visit Peak District and Derbyshire members for a Bakewell Pudding making experience, followed by afternoon tea and a glass of Prosecco.

It’s always a great pleasure to meet fellow businesses from across the region, share what we do and enjoy a little taste of Bakewell together.

A big thank you to Visit Peak District and Derbyshire and everyone who joined us! ❤️

We are absolutely delighted to announce that we received two incredible awards last night at the @greatbritishfoodawards 🎉

Our iconic, Original Bakewell Pudding earned Bronze in the ‘British Speciality category’ while our Flaked Bakewell Tart received Silver in the ‘Desserts’ category 🤩

Both of our award winning products are a central part of our heritage and have been handcrafted by our award winning bakers for more than a century!

We are over the moon especially, as this was our first time entering these prestigious awards💫

We are immensely proud of our exceptional team and our family business, which is deeply rooted in heritage❤️
