📍 Chatsworth House & Bakewell, Derbyshire This fairly short drive began with breakfast and a coffee at @buttonswakefield in Walton, followed by a 5km morning walk around @waltoncolliery Nature Reserve Followed by just over an hours drive to @chatsworthhouse for a Bakewell coffee and another 8km round walk by the river 🏞️🥾. We then had a really short drive to Bakewell to get their famous Bakewell tart & pudding @realbakewellpud, followed by a pint in the dog friendly @therutlandarmshotel where you could stay over if you wished 🐶. #derbyshire #bakewell #chatsworth #dogfriendly #walton

Coffee shops spilling onto the pavements, independents behind old stone shopfronts, pubs, restaurants, bakeries and a market that’s been part of the town for generations.

Busy without losing its charm, a place people travel to for the day but still feels distinctly local.

Some towns are known for their history. Bakewell is known for a famous mistake… 🥧

Centuries before the pudding, a medieval stone bridge brought traders across the river to the market. It’s still held in the same spot today, more than 800 years later. 🌉

Then, in the mid 1800s, the Rutland Arms kitchen is said to have served up something unexpected. A strawberry tart was ordered, but the cook poured the egg mixture over the jam instead of mixing it into the pastry. The result was so good it never left the menu 🤎

Today, you can still taste it in the town where it all began. At the Original Bakewell Pudding Shop @realbakewellpud
Just don’t call it a tart, the locals will notice 😉

AND IT’S ALL THANKS TO A KITCHEN MISHAP 😮‍💨

The Bakewell Pudding is one of the Peak District’s finest exports, but did you know it came about totally by accident (and way before its more popular sibling, the Bakewell tart)?

We popped over to the beautiful market town of Bakewell last week and lost ourselves in the history of this sweet little icon at @realbakewellpud.

Now can we start a petition to make the pudding more popular than the tart?

I know that people are often interested in what I eat as a Dietitian. And I often think I should share more of what I actually eat (I just often forget to take photos). So heres a new series:

✨10 nice things I’ve eaten recently✨
1. Wholemeal pasta with courgette, @boldbeanco butter beans, and pesto
2. Toddler-friendly flapjack (recipe on my website)
3. Mackerel risotto (caught by my husband, wish it had been me)
4. Quinoa, feta, tofu, pomegranate leftovers
5. Salmon, sushi rice, veggies with kimchi & gyoza
6. Bakewell pudding at @realbakewellpud
7. Salmon with broccoli basmati rice
8. Leek & potato soup my Father-in-law made for me
9. Quinoa & cucumber salad with tofu and avocado
10. Many apples from our little apple tree (many in crumble form)
